Thor 5 - T1 in Sicily

My Satellite Setup
80 cm - 4 arm LNB holder. 0.8W, 9E, 13E, 19.2E.
My Location
Padborg, Denmark
I might be moving to Italy, Sicily in two years time. I am wondering what disk size I might need to get Thor 5 T1 beam down there. As I want to get Ruv (Icelandic channel) over there if I can.

If I can't, then I can't.

Suggests Italy is quite a distance outside the usable Footprint for T1 ................. so Fringe reception might not be possible.

Obviously it would be better if someone who lives there can confirm, but the omens are not good.

T2/T3 look viable, though, as does K2, although K1 looks dodgy.
 
Is it just 11403V you're after to get ? This frequency was one of the strongest at least up to Central Italy so a 1.50m could get it but i am not aware how the situation looks like further South and if hot weather weakens the signal much. Expect something really big, i'd say at least 2.40m if not bigger. Maybe somebody here has access to such a dish size and is located in Sicily.

Edit: In the above board there is a user with nickname "MEGADISH". He is located in Palermo and has a 3m dish but unfortunately it's mesh so it's performing in the Ku band very badly but maybe he knows anybody there using a solid dish of this size.
 
@Tivù, Thanks for the information. @deepbluesky, Thanks for the information. Ruv is at 11403V last time I did check. But they seem to have stopped broadcasting on Intelsat 10-02 as they used to. All of Iceland is within 44 frame on the map and there I can use 85cm dish to get the signal from Thor 5. But I not know how big the fall in the signal is from the 44 line on the Thor 5 map.
 
If RUV had any sense they would have kept their radio channels RAS 1 & 2 on the Europe wide T2 beam.

Icelanders in Europe could then stay in contact their country without worrying about access to the internet or problems with bandwidth.

Try complaining about this to the government department responsible for broadcasting because it is a definite step backwards, and it is extremely unusual for any country not to have at least Europe wide radio broadcasts.

The Danish national broadcasters radio stations remain on the T2 beam, and 2 of NRK.
 
hexah, I don't know why they did choose this. But I do know that they are not going to change it any time soon. The broadcast is intended for Iceland only according to Ruv web site. I am wondering if 180cm might be big enough for this.
 
You will need the same size of dish for television and for radio.
 
I know. But I am only going to have one dish pointed to 1W when the time comes.
