Edision Mio 4k UHD, Fracarro Penta 85 with Inverto Black Ultra LNB. Technomate 2600 motor. Technomate 6902hd and 1m Gibertini in France.

My ageing Technomate 6902 has performed well (courtesy of an excellent motorised install by Captain Jack a few years ago), but the time has come to retire it to the holiday cottage for occasional use if I ever get to return. For my budget of around £250 I am drawn to the Vu+ Uno, but I have concerns about it being sufficiently user-friendly given my lack of familiarity with anything Linux based. The none-Linux offering for a 4k receiver appears limited. I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has also faced this dilemna when upgrading.

For single tuner there's the Octagon SX88 4K, or an SF8008 with the DefineSat image. For twin tuner I found the Technisat DIGIPLUS UHD S though it has no internal hard disk and perhaps looks too simple - I'm not sure it has blind scan or USALS.

GT Media V8 UHD is another option, looks to have similar menus to Openbox receivers I've used.

That GT box got a decent spec, I was thinking of unpeeling some green for one.
Alternatively, I am hearing that one or two of the top men on the UK scene are saying good things about the latest version of the Hello box.

Thanks all for the feedback. The TechniSat had caught my eye, but as far as I can tell it doesn't have USAL's (strange?) which would complicate matters for me.

I've got a lot of boxes here. Uno, Duo, Ultimo, Solo2 Solo 4K, Ultimo 4K, Nino Pro, Mio 4k, Mio 4k+, sf8008, lots more.

sf8008 comes as a twin (2x DVB-S2) or combo (1x DVB-T2, 1x DVB-S2). Great box. Has blindscan. Is MIS and T2MI capable. Can't blind scan PLS codes.

Mio 4k+ has 2 DVB-S2 tuners, one of which is also DVB-T2 capable. Has blindscan. Is MIS and T2MI capable. And can blind scan PLS codes.

Both are great boxes, well within your budget. Add an external USB3 disk (or even a USB pen at a pinch) and you have a very capable PVR.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

For £250 you can get two SF8008s and a PLL twin LNB.

are PLL LNB's worth it, over your bog standard IBU 0.1db?

Do you mean the white receiver Android version or the upright black & orange one?

Not from personal experience, but it does give you a chance to experiment.

Someone recently had problems with one:

No, it's hardware.

The Nino Pro, Mio 4k, and Mio 4k+ are the only enigma receivers currently able to read those codes.

No big deal because they are in satellites.xml anyway so the sf8008 has no problem scanning those transponders, it is just the sf8008 can't resolve the codes in a blindscan.

The Mio 4k+ gets praise for its build quality, and fits my budget.
Would you consider the Mio to be reasonably user-friendly as regards the initial scanning in for a motorised setup, using the menus within the pre-installed image that comes with the box? The Mio manual makes no reference to this aspect.

I can't remember what image was pre-installed on that box, maybe OpenATV, but all my boxes get flashed with OpenViX. If you are buying from the forum sponsor they would do that for you.

With regards to user-friendly, that is down to the image. Doesn't matter which modern receiver you choose the user experience will be the same. Yeah, one might have more tuners than another, or a colourful front panel, or blindscan, etc, but those are just features.

Thanks Huevos for the feedback. I'm leaning towards the Mio.

i returned my MIO, but ONLY because i was disappointed with blindscan on it, nothing major, but it couldnt find low SR TPs on 45w - whereas the Octagon sf8008 could....if you're not fussed by blindscanning - then MIO is a lovey STB

also, for some annoying reason, they dont include 1gb LAN as standard, they go for 10/100 mb - very odd.

For feed hunting and delving into the world of signals with low SR, narrow bandwith and closely spaced frequencies I would buy the Octagon SF8008 in preference to the mio.
For general satellite TV use, the mio with an OpenViX image is a nice combination.
