In sorting out a box of bits over the weekend, I came across an old watch that I paid peanuts for months back.

I put her away partly because I couldn't work out what make it was, and the lack of a cable to connect to anything else.

In the past couple of days I've found not only the make, but in removing one of the plastic - now fragile/broken - side panels, it has additional slot which I knew nothing about.

Can somebody tell me what the connector is I have to order ? It's smaller than the micro USB I have for the smallest camera port on the Panasonic.

Take a look at this Wikipedia page as there is a lot of info on various USB and similar connectors - including some proprietary ones.

PS: I've also had a few very small non-standard ones over the years - generally bespoke to specific very small electronic items - might have a suitable lead in the drawer and will have a look over the next day or so

Looks proprietary, the closest match I know of is a UC-E6 but that has equal bevelled edges, the watch socket appears to have only one.

How many connections on that one? It looks to have 8 but I can't blow it up any more to see it closer.

And if it is a SWaP watch then that slot is for a micro mini sim card.

No, the image on the auction looks like a standard mini to me, this is tiny, about half the width of the port on modern phones (android and iPhone 6)

If anything it is very close to the Nokia port on the 2330 though no sites have them in their guide - it could be CA-42,CA-50 or something else.

I will try to post a better image when I get back home.

From the charging/image delivery cord from a Fuji Finepix S1500 camara I use for outdoor stuff. Comes up as this in a search, a USB Mini ( 8 pin.

1.5m USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Cable (Type-A to Mini-B 8 Pin)

It doesn't have the same asymetrical outer shield but the number of pins and dimensions overall are identical.

Once I've had a glass of something later I'll 'coax' the two together, see how they get on.

And on closer inspection the Nokia phone is a four pin connector so I was lucky not to have bought something to fit in my haste.

judicious tweaking..

The new name for Vaseline ?

It goes in - ooooooerrrrr - but the button near the mini8 socket on the watch depresses owing to the cable outer dimeter .

I could try cutting a groove into the plastic surround but I'm just about to start cooking.

Had lunch break and took the plunge.

The connector is a nice snug fit but goes in without complaint. But nothing from the watch even after connecting for an hour.

I know the lead is OK since it retrieves info from the camera, but I'm not sure if it is two way to deliver charge into the watch (or if the watch had its own charging system other than connection to the PC)

Anyhow more inspection is required.

There's a free service manual for the Finepix S1500 here - might have the pin-out in that.

OTOH, the watch battery may just be dead.

According to a review it had a combined USB charging and data lead

The Finepix uses AA standard cell batteries, and the manual states there is a DC adapter for use misers use and - I assume - charging of any recharegeable batteries.

The USB cable I believe did not come with the camera, but fits and does the job of downloading image to PC. I believe it is a two way device but will check tomorrow.

I didn't want to take the watch further apart than I have, the plastic has all but disintegrated on the two covers and whilst there are small screws on the panelling side and rear, I can see a one is already missing and I'm bound to lose more as they are tiny.

If ayone knows if these watches had removeable /recharageable batteries it will save me the hassle opening her up.

If the battery's have not been charge for a very long time you may not want to open the watch to see whats what, you may find a big corroded mess around the battery's.

If it's not taking a charge then don't try any further, it may cause a problem.

And not knowing what type of battery is in there may cause a problem as Li, NiMH and Nicad all take different charging voltage/current levels, so a charger from a different device may fit but are the battery's it's designed for the same ones as whats in your device?
