Good evening

(you might have read this "somewhere else"!)

The recently purchased 5402-M3 was successfully updated with the Feb 2016 patch via a USB stick. However, that left it with an empty channel list.

So, downloaded the latest William1 channel list, which is roughly 306kB, put it on the USB stick and then tried to load that via the USB Up/Down/File Manager on the TM but it did not want to update and gave an insufficient memory message!

Then I tried the FTP route and, whilst that did not work directly, it pointed me back at the Up/Down/File Manager - and that did work and loaded the new channel lists!

Any idea why there was a difference?

Have you followed the guides?
There is a video, on youtube, that might help:

What's wrong with your VU+ Solo 2?

Thank you for the Youtube link - I will take a look (however, I don't often use that source because there is so much dross there that I can rarely be bothered to even look!).

As for the Vu+? There's nothing wrong with it (as far as I know so far), but I needed something "straightforward" for the task of setting up the dishes and Diseqc switches at the bottom of the garden, and that's where the TM comes in. When that aspect is sorted (kinda "was", but then decided to reassign which fixed dishes will be pointed where when it became clear that - understandably - the Gemini 90 has lower gain than the others and will be best for the strong signal sources such as 19 & 28E)

The VU+ Solo 2 is quite a good receiver, but does require a little work, initially, to set it up, but once done it should fit your requirements.

At the moment I've got a whole load of other jobs on the go: major garden refurb, couple of cars to sort out, lot of aviation photos (and possibly a faulty DSLR :-(!) to sort out and work on (and more flying shows to go to over the short Summer display season), media centre PC to set up (that damned ACER which would not work after hours/days spent trying to get it running - the replacement should be here sometime today and hopefully that will actually work but still needs a lot of TLC to get it set up the way I want it) - and then there are places to go with SWMBO (and the house itself needs a good clean as that's been on the backburner because of all those other things).

That's why the TM is the first priority for the sat system - it's just more straightforward to set up and use (apart from that damned problem that it will not work with my small DVI-D monitor, so, after many wasted hours I finally had to resort to the front bedroom TV which is now down in the garage.).

When all that lot is pretty much sorted then Vu+ will be got to!
