My second HP scanner (SCSI) gave me a hard time all day long yesterday.
I need a scan to archive some documents on a bi-monthly basis, nothing spectacular, just pdf files conversion.
Didn't want to waste another day trying to get it to work. The SCSI host card was suspect and as these cards cost the earth nowadays, I decided to look into our local Office Depot shop.
Looked for a scanner only, but then noticed an HP little hideous looking machine which is an all in one: Printer, scanner, copy machine for just 200 NIS (~30 pounds) with USB interface. Model DeskJet F2280
So I bought it, installed it and did all the scanning that I needed.
Just to think that my previous scanner cost me at the time about 30 times as much made my blood boil. And that was only for a scanner !!!!

Now only if it was insured. :-DOH!
 
And wot about the cost of Ink?

My trusty Epson Stylus 400 runs happily on Cartridges costing about £1 each (or less!).

Be very careful replacing cartridges in these HPs. Some have a strange ziz-zag spring in the holder and if it comes adrift can damage the flexible PCB in the holder.
 
And generally, replacement cartrdges for such cheap printers, cost more than printer itself :)

Yes but that goes for everything IT! Like £1200 for a DX33 with 120MB disk in 1992..... when money was worth something. 4MB memory £100; and 3GB SCSI hard drive for £1500. Wanna see money disappear? Buy IT equipment 'O'-red

Thanks for the tip pgh13.:)
I have a Canon printer which is quite good. I bought the new machine mainly because of the scanner, and it will take some time before I will need to replace the HP cartridges.

The point I was making was prices coming down over time....those were 1992 prices :)
 
When I was a kid, my parents told me how everything was so cheap in the old days.
Funny how things turned around for us: We can tell our children how everything was so expensive in the good old days.:-rofl2
