With old tv set, not only is there the switch on surge you get in any gadget (eg Kaon receiver above), there's also an additional surge through the degaussing coils. These may be disconnected, in which case the set MIGHT remain on.
If considering doing this, then safety first etc, the tv must be completely disconnected from mains, and be aware there might still be dc charges in various places.
(added) OOPS, SORRY, I've made a silly mistake .............
The degauss coils are connected straight across mains, IN PARALLEL with electronics power supply, so rest of tv should not be affected by them ....... although they can blow the main internal fuse, if faulty.
