OK Guys,

I live in Spain, I currently have a TV provider but they are rubbish so I've decided to get my own independent system. This means I will have no one to moan at but myself if it all goes wrong!

I've had a good old read of a million sites and to be honest, it could be written in Japanese for all the sense it makes.

So far I know I need:
  • A 1.4 metre dish which can be wall mounted (don't worry I have no intention of doing this myself)
  • A 4 way LNB (I have four TV's)
  • A satellite box for each TV, two of which I want to have hard drive recording capability
  • A ton of caballing
If possible I would like to be able to get subtitles on at least one TV

This is about as sure as I get, from here I start to waiver, which is the best Freesat box to get, do I need a Prime Focus or Offset Focus dish, which dish gets the best reception, et. etc. etc..

There are providers of TV in Spain but I don't want to start approaching them not knowing my "stuff" people really do want to rip you off over here!

Any help, advice, support and kind words would be much appreciated.

Welcome Tina.

I assume it's UK TV you want, and I'm happy to report that we have several regular Members here who not only live in your area but also do independent Satellite system installations.

I'm sure they be glad to help with your questions once they've woken up!

Indeed, welcome to the forum. As L says, we have several Spanish members who will be able to give more specific advice but in the meantime-

What or who is your current TV provider? UK TV or Spanish?

If you have four TVs and want recording capabilities on two of them then, to get the best flexibility, you will need recorders with twin satellite feeds. This means an eight output (octo) LNB will ne needed.

That's good to know, I can help them with their Spanish affairs but this is just Double Dutch! And yes it is UK TV I'm after, Mummy can't miss her Coronation Street!

Until you get a satellite dish setup working, perhaps you can try to watch streaming services like BBC iPlayer and others.
As for the satellite receivers, I use the VU+ brand and I am happy with it. Maybe you can get a good deal for ordering four units.
It has a lot of flexibility, if you are up to a bit of a challenge.

Perhaps @Milamber would be kind enough to offer some advice to a "local"?

Sorry, sleepy head in Formentera del Segura ( 5 mins from your place ) also has a day job, fitting sat systems!
I will, of course, offer totally impartial advice, and if required will fit a system for you.
But, as I advise all my friends, get two or three quotes first, then go from there
