Help!!!! why is TPS foot & Star such bad quality? it is breaking up constantly and freezing momentarily. Otherwise the picture quality is excellent but this is so annoying. OK I have about 100m of cable to the dish and several connections but other channels have the same signal strength as foot (about 28%) and star (about 40%) with no problems!! this is making the footy watching very unenjoyable.

Any help appreciated:-tree

Can't help much but I'm getting 53% signal quality today even though it's raining heavily, no break up on my Sky Star 2.

On a side note are the TPS movies always broadcast in 544x576? It looks like 4:3 but letterboxed on mine.

I'm new to all this but watched the Leon extended edition all the way through last night without break up.

I used to have the same problem !

It was only when watching footie, tho. I could watch all the non footie stuff, no problem, but as soon as a live footie match was on, it started breaking up and freezing.
I checked the performance meter, and noticed that it was flat out all the time. I was running a 933mhz PIII HP Omnibook laptop with ss2 usb, so i presumed it wasn't beefy enough.
I now run a P4 3.0Ghz on a Acer widescreen aspire 1672. No problems now, so maybe your processor is not fast enough?

Hi BG...
I'm very well, thanks for asking. Haven't had much reason to visit too often. I have slimmed down my system to a 45cm minidish, so only watch 28E, 19E and 13E. so not on the look out for too much information...just regular key updates (its a pain with multivision at the moment, isn't it). I had to reply to this thread, tho, coz its exactly the same problem that was frustrating me before i got new laptop...

anyway, lets hope he sorts it,
best wishes to you for 2006 and to everyone on the forum :-hny

Thanks Peter, I have a pentium III which is about 950mhz so may be the problem though, I have just got a new graphics card (64mb) with TV out, instead of the 8mb internal graphics, thought that would help but it seems the same. Wondered if there are any settings that I need to change for the graphics card to lessen the load on the processor? So frustrating when all the other channels are fine!

I dont think the graphics card is the problem, or memory. It is down to pure power from the processor. I think you need more ooommpphh!
Would be interesting to see if anyone else out there has a similar processor and is experiencing the same problems...

Mmmm, actually the pc is only 733Mhz and after installing a RAM tool thing, it is showing on average 96% RAM usage. Most channels show about 16-20mb RAM left but TPS Foot goes down to about 9mb!! Have 128mb RAM so have just ordered another 256mb off ebay and hopefully it might help?.......

I had that problem with PIII 800, but is much better with 1.8Ghz PIV, but even that can struggle sometimes with rapid movement

Hi guys.. marky I'd say its quite simply down to your installation mate. 28 & 40% are no where near high enough values. I use an 80cm triax and get over 90% on every transponder... TPS channels are crystal clear. Replace your coax mate with a single run, and if no major improvment , check your dish allignment

I think as others that it is down to raw processing power.
Being located here in cyprus its almost a fringe area for some footprints on tps and so very good for checking problems like these.
All the tps channels plus multivision are of a similar signal strength and on performance about the same cpu usage, but when you go to tps football channel
for a similar signal strength the cpu usage more than doubles,so draw your own conclusions.
By the way cant get tps star frequency here as it is on the superbeam, and Iam way out of the footprint.
Having said that it also wouldn,t harm to check your dish and lnb for alignment.

Thanks guys, just put the new RAM in and yep, no real change for TPS foot though the PC is noticably faster!! guess it will help if your RAM usage drops from 96% to 59%!

Just ordered 100m cable reel off ebay, so will replace the lot and put it through a hose too. Am I right in thinking that for roughly a 70m cable run a booster is recommended? if so I can still have a complete run from the back of the wood into the bedroom where I have an existing booster, or do you think it's worth trying it first with the whole 100m before i cut it?

Have tried re-aligning the dish with the meter but can't get any better with current cable set up. Have to say though, we have really really strong winds at present, hot bird has held up while sky has given up!

Right then, TPS Foot is definitely better quality on DVBdream than ProgDVB but still not great. The handy thing with dream is that it shows CPU usage wich flicks between 85% and 100% on TPS Foot, hmmm not good! Is the only answer a new tower system or is it easy & cost effective to replace the CPU and if so what does that entail? (new motherboard? etc etc) any suggestions welcome. Spoiled my dubious 'enjoyment' of the lads going down again to the mediocre merseysiders........
