In 2004 we had a period of hyperactivity of the sun with related magnetic storms. One japanese tlc sat was "killed". Many others experienced anomalous events which in most cases did not effect the service, but that sharp rise in the number of many different events caused quite a few troubles (electrostatic discharge, channel amplifiers gain reset, small earth depointing, on board computer crashes) which did't cause service interruptions only because the on board electronics have always back-up automatic and/or manual (from ground control stations) routines and hardware redundancies ready to take over in a matter of seconds. Believe you me, and I talk from direct personal work experience, the sun storms create trouble, but tv viewers don not realize what goes on on board. By the way, one sunny day I wish I will be able to understand what the hell went wrong on that piece of junk of astra 2a and b. I am quite sure that the rumour about the partial solar panel failure is true. And that might cause a weaker signal at fringe reception areas. My reception used to be perfect also on 2a and b north pol. H (now I can only get V, if I'am lucky and there is no cloud over africa) until just over one year ago. Unfortunately I cannot get info from ses-astra. I tried, but no luck. I can get any info from eutelsat and telespazio but nothing from them. Denis1501, would you be so kind and list what you are able to watch these days ? It seems I can pick up only eurobird and a few useless channels, but no skyone, ukgold etc. and only sometimes and from the manual tuning sky news. For two days last week-end I could get everything again and then on monday night they've desappeared again. Another mistery.
