My Satellite Setup
Sky
My Location

hi all,
I'm new to this forum, I've being searching through most threads to see if my question has been answered but i can't see it. Basically I was in my local last night watching the l'pool vs stoke game on foreign sat station = Tring. I would love to be able to watch the saturday 3pm games and like last night be able to watch other games that Sky uk don't offer. :)
I live in Rep. of Ireland if it makes a difference.

My questions to you all is how would I go about getting this for my house.
1) Would I need a new satellite dish as I would still like to use my sky sub - or can I use my existing dish.
2) What type of receiver can I use for Tring.
3) Is there any other satellite system that you would recommend other than Tring based on cost and quality.

thanks in advance

Sean

You'll need at least an 80cm dish pointing at 16e, you're on 28e at the minute. You need a box that supports conax (I think) and Tring is the cheapest but may not last like we saw with DigitAlb

Thanks fergyc, so I'll need to get another dish if I want to watch Sky UK and a foreign card like Tring. It will probably next season before I get a sub that shows 3pm games. Would Viasat be a better option, its mentioned alot in other threads.

Also remember that Ѕky are likely to withdraw their English commentary feed to all foreign stations following the latest court ruling.

That means that no foreign station will have English commentary next season.

Nothing wrong with the Sat Broadcaster adding their own English Commentary, just not the one from the Game.

Though if it is a 3pm game, it wont be shown in the UK, so what will the English Commentators do for work ?

Commentate for the Sat Broadcaster, I fink

Ѕky have their own commentary team at every EPL game and Ѕky show every EPL game on Football First in delayed transmission.

This is the English commentary that is currently provided to all foreign broadcasters that choose to take it. Ѕky will definitely withdraw this facilty from next season as a reasult of the court case decision.

Surely the true football fan would not actually need a commentary?

You can always use the commentary from the radio anyways! But who knows the english commentary could still be there.

Doubt it. It was part of the package that many rights holders signed up to

This is a highly complex and uncertain development, though: The ramifications may not be all to the general good.

I can see the 3pm lock out going - and if that disappears the whole reason to buy foreign subscriptions disappears for many.

Its only a guideline ruling atm - it could be months before the final judgement is given - and it could be overturned..

Don't see why they wouldn't use MOTD commentary. I remember a few weeks ago C+ Futbol had MOTD commentary and Sky Germany had the Sky commentary

Viasat may need a bigger dish, it has much better quality channels (picture, sound etc.) however a card/subscription is going to cost in excess of £800 - much more expensive that Tring.

Which team do you support? If you want to watch matches for a fringe team, Viasat is the better option as they cover more games. However if you support Liverpool for example, you're more likely to get the game on Tring, week-in week-out. Bigger teams are also on the main Viasat channels however they do not always have English commentary (if that is a must) whereas their 'extra' channels always seem to do :)
