Hi!

I have probably messed things up big time, but hopefully there is a way to fix my problem?

I have flashed my dm 800 HD a few times, because I couldn't get it to work right, however the last few days its been playing up. I have been getting block error problems when flashing, and last time I tried, there was a HUGE list of errors in the web interface. Now every time I attempt to reboot to flash (pull power cable, hold down reset button and replug, waiting a few seconds for the **stop* message) all I get a blank screen, or *ERROR*.

i've checked my ethernet cable, everthing is OK there. I suspect I've screwed the flash rom somehow. Is there a version somwhere in the box that can be forced to work?

Can I use a serial cable to flash, and if so how?

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Its NOT a clone, but a real Dreamabox 800 HD

Thanks

Francis

Dont panic, it is probably recoverable, but you are gonna need a Null Modem Cable and a Program called Dreamup.

Try the solution above, but I guess you will need to Flash by Serial Null Modem Cable.

By Null Modem I assume you mean a serial cable via the rs232 port. I hope there is a OSX version of Dreamup! I'll give it a try! Thanks!

No he means a null modem cable not a serial cable, they look the same but are wired differently.

Again dreamup can be downloaded from Dream mulitmedia home page.

I got a null modem cable and am using Parallels in OSX running XP pro. When I start DreamUp I turn the DB on as instructed by DreamUp. Nothing happens in DreamUp and the DB indicator flashes away and there is an error message on the LCD.

It could be the Parallels not working correctly with my keyspan USA-19 USB Dongle I suppose. Is there any way I can test this, for instance using a terminal in OSX to connect to the Dreambox! If so how!

Thanks

Normally you have Dreamup running before you turn on the DM800, this I think means that Dreamup can interupt the DM800 and prevent it booting.

If you are getting the error message I would imagine its your serial setup that is not funtioning correctly and cannot stop the DM800 from booting and getting the error.

An emulator on top of an adapter is not a good way to go.

Try and borrow an older PC with a 9 pin Serial Port.

As mentioned I would definatley seek out an old laptop or desktop pc mate. USB to serial adapters do cause some issues. Also just to mention for the use of DreamboxEdit and Dreambox Control Centre I hightly recommend using VMWare fusion rather than parallels, its much more stable.

Make sure you have the null modem connected to both PC and DM then start Dreamup, click Flash, then start the DM. This should stop the DM from booting and Dreamup should respond accordingly. In this case I would try the option in DreamUp to erase the flash completely before flashing.

I have read reports of people with later DM800 are having problems flashing with images such as pure flash and gemini.

The way around it is to flash the latest lean image from OoZoon, after this you can flash as normal.

my brand new dm800 had to have the latest drivers and bootloader installed before i could flash it. it was built back in sept 08 though.

EDIT:- also on my 7025 i found that when i had a usb drive plugged in it wouldnt get to the 'stop' on boot so i could access it via the ip address and flash it. As soon as i unplugged the drive it worked as normal
