I got a 4kilo bird in the sales, and need to cook it tomorrow, the last time I tried one was over five years back since we usually have lamb or beef.

So what is a fool proof and relatively maintenance free method of cooking in an electric oven ?

Picture of the last one, (2016 - slightly larger from memory) that came out rather well.

I'd suggest frying the thumbs separately on the stove top......

Sorry, no real advice as it must be over 15 years since we had a turkey. We eat out for Xmas lunch and dinner on New Years eve...

Apropos of not a lot, The Bog-Eyed Jog springs to mind

"O' My Father had a rabbit
And he thought it was a duck
So he stuck it on the table
With its legs cocked up

He mixed a bowl of stuffing
And left it on the shelf
But when he came to stuff the duck
The duck had stuffed itself"

Thumbs ?

But thanks, I would put the breast lower in the pan - or turning more often to suit in the rotation cycle - to give it more juice / less burn time.

I will add lubricant under the skin to improve the chance it won't crisp if I forget to look into the oven at some point. I'm more interested in timing (kilo per hour and pre-heating) as I am more of a methane person.

I have checked the gas mark v temperature, just need confidence before the Dutch version kicks in tomorrow

Thanks.

No bacon in the house, but I will be putting lots of truffle oil under the skin to help baste.

I will probably work with 'less heat, more time' in the oven as well to save charring.
