Hi all,

Up until about 18 months ago... I used to be able to receive (intermittently) two frequencies from the East Beam of Turksat 3A at 42.0°E and two frequencies from the East Beam of Turksat 2A at 42.0°E... and I reported them back then on JKF...

However... I have not seen a signal from these East Beam frequencies on any of my subsequent scans of this satellite... that was until today... I have just managed to receive a signal again from...

Turksat 3A at 42.0°E [East Beam]

10.982H [9600] 5/6 DVB-S [QPSK] 15.2 Mbps [East Beam]

KanalTurk TV (Turkiye) [VPID 0308/APID 0256/PPID 8190] FTA

It is currently very cold in the region, and I would hazard a guess that coupled with the still air above the whole of Europe, the link budget of the transmissions allow better reception outside the usual footprint.

Is there anything of interest to non-Turkish speaking enthusiasts though ?

Hi again all,

Just a brief update on this East Beam transponder... the signal quality seems to be getting slightly stronger now...

hi Zorch -
what a coincidence -- i was back looking at this sat in more detail last night --
i can get a few t.p.s from east beams -- and last night was especially good - better than at the moment having just checked , -- i will list my findings later , as i have to go to work right now

the tp you listed above is loud and clear though at the moment :) -- mind you the dish is 1.8 --- but i am further north than you i think ?--
how is reception of 11054 H 30000 for you -- i can generally get this one 24/7

regards

Hi nelson_b,

Regarding 11.054H [30000]

That is one of the frequencies I used to get (intermittently) some time ago... but nothing from it since... is your reception of this TP only possible using your 1.8m dish...?

Best Wishes,
Zorch

hi - yes only with 1.8 -
i,v tried with 1.2 channel master and last autumn with a 1.2 Fibo - (Quality dish) - but never had a signal
in the past 11.054H [30000] has always been the strongest east beam t.p for me here - often the only one receivable -
but the t.p. you are receiving is currently the strongest for me here -
quite a few of the channels i scanned in last night will not show a signal tonight though --- "yet"
but some are still ok - (just) - i will list the ones that scanned last night for me - later -- :)

cheers --

hi - Zorch
last night i had channels that would scan into my reciever from
10956 H 2960
10968 H 11200
10982 H 9600
11054 H 30000
11096 H 30000
11628 H 6666
11906 H 4800
11964 H 5925
not all were watchable though --( heavily pixelated )
i dont recall gettin reception from more than 4 of these t.p,s in the past --
tonight is not as good quite, a couple of the t.p,s will not give a signal at all -
and a couple are only just above the borderline

regards -- nelson.b.

Hi again nelson_b,

According to flysat... the first two TP's in your list have changed their frequency and symbol rate earlier today... perhaps that's why you are not receiving them now...

thanks for the info ---:)
the Azerbaijan Package is working for me now and is showing to be as strong as the Bugun/canalturk channels here on my setup --- maybe you can receive this one ?
regards ---

yes -- i,m sure the extra good reception will vanish when the frosty weather goes :(

T.v. wise -- no --- not for me -- but one of my favorite music-radio stations is on 11054 H

"About Radio Eksen 96.2

Launched in November 2000, Radyo Eksen delivers a wide range of quality music, from indie to country and from hard-rock to modern-rock. Its broadcasting philosophy is based on the reflection of urban life in modern music.

Radyo Eksen broadcasts on 96.2 FM in Istanbul and live on the Internet and via satellite. "

hi - zorch -
the signal strengths are very varied at different times of day on these east beams -
some that got very strong late last night were much weaker this morning -
and this morning - some that were weak last night - were now much stronger ?

i was able to scan channels from another two different t.p.,s last night -- but were too low in signal to view a picture , but this morning i had pictures from both --

11644 H 2222
11972 H 7200

below - the rest of the pics from last night and a couple from this morning -- :)

Hi again nelson_b,

I had a search again this morning and found nothing... I'll have another try shortly... might be lucky... I must say you get some great results with your 1.8m

hi - Zorch -
now that the weather here has returned to normal :( after the lovely clear frosty weather of a couple of weeks ago .
i thought i would see what was receivable today - on the east beam transponders that i could get then.:)
i,v always been able to receive a couple of t.p.,s regularly -- and only lost them in very bad weather ,
so i think something may have changed slightly in my favour from this sat as i,m still receiving stable pictures from 6 transponders this afternoon -- in broken cloud conditions

10956 H 2960 weak signal -stable picture
10965 H 12800 stable picture
10982 H 9600 good signal stable picture
11054 H 30000 good signal stable picture
11096 H 30000 weak signal -stable picture
11628 H 6666 weak pixelating picture
11906 H 4800 weak signal -stable picture
11964 H 5925 hint of signal but below lock

11644 H 2222 no signal
11972 H 7200 hint of signal but below lock

regards nelson.b.

Hi again nelson_b,

I'll have a look in a minute mate... although I don't expect to get anything this late in the day... my best time for East Beam reception has always been mid-mornings... but I'll give it a go...

Best Wishes,
Zorch

I've had a try at all of the TP's above... and got nothing... the only one that is anywhere close to getting a lock is 11.054H... but the signal quality (red bars obviously) fluctuates erratically between 37%-51% but never locks...

I have just been searching through my archived JKF posts... and this was the first post in my thread on this very subject...

Hi all,

I have been scanning Turksat 2A/3A at 42.0°E today and I have noticed that I am able to receive 1 transponder from the Turksat 2A East Beam... and 3 transponders from the Turksat 3A East Beam...

The 1 Turksat 2A East Beam transponder is...

11.906H [4800] 5/6 DVB-S [QPSK] 2261 Kbps [East Beam]
Samanyolu TV [VPID 0308/APID 0256/PPID 8190]

The 3 Turksat 3A East Beam transponders are...

10.982H [9600] 5/6 DVB-S [QPSK] 15.2 Mbps [East Beam]
KanalTurk [VPID 0308/APID 0256/PPID 8190]
Bugun TV [VPID 0310/APID 0262/PPID 8189]

11.628H [6666] 5/6 DVB-S QPSK [East Beam]
ATV Turkiye [VPID 0308/APID 0256/PPID 8190]

11.658H [2222] 5/6 DVB-S QPSK [East Beam]
Afghan TV [VPID 0512/APID 0768/PPID 0512]

Looking at the footprint maps... reception of some of the Turksat 3A East Beam transponders looks fairly possible in the UK... but reception of anything from the Turksat 2A East Beam transponders in the UK should be neigh impossible... but the one transponder that I am receiving from the Turksat 2A East Beam is the strongest signal of all of the above... can't figure that one out...

Can anyone else on the forum (who is located in the UK) receive any of the Turksat 2A/3A East Beam transponders... if so what size dish are you using...?

Best Wishes,
Zorch

Back then I was using a TM 5400 CI+ USB to search the Turksat East beam... and very good it was... my results on the East beam since then... with supposedly better, more modern Technomate receivers... has never been as good... perhaps I'll have to dig it out of the cupboard and give it another go... :-righton

Best Wishes,
Zorch

The Technomate TM 5400 SD CI+ USB has the best tuner for sensitivity I have a TM5200 USB in the cupboard also a TM5200 USB Super + the main problem with the receivers was that the symbol rates are out of calibration;

Correct ~ TM5000 USB series
5632....= 5606 to 5236
6111....= 6102 to 6118
ect ect

So I was unable to posts feeds with my findings with these receivers I even wrote to TM to complain about the symbol rate being out of calibration so the sent me the TM5200 USB Super with the slightly less sensitive tuner & supposedly better symbol rate calibration but they never achieved the accuracy of my TM1500CI Super+,

But I did manage to get a signal & pictures from the East beam with the TM5200 USB with my 104 cm dish 11096H 30000 TRT package,

I did try a few other receivers but nothing this may be that I just had a bit of luck with the reception that day as I have never been able to repeat it.

Hi again nelson_b,

I have been trying all of the East Beam frequencies again this morning... and the only one I am able to get is...

10.982H [9600] 5/6 DVB-S [QPSK] 15.2 Mbps [East Beam]

KanalTurk TV (Turkiye) [VPID 0308/APID 0256/PPID 8190] FTA
Bugun TV (Turkiye) [VPID 0310/APID 0262/PPID 8189] FTA

TM 5402 HD CI+ Super+
Signal Strength 97%
Signal Quality 57%

I have attached a picture below...

PS
11.054H [30000] is still eluding me... I can't understand why I'm not getting a lock on this one... the signal quality (red bars obviously) is now much less erratic than last night... and is now fluctuating between 40%-53% but still no lock... I'm confused...

I have attached pictures below...

Best Wishes,
Zorch

nice one -- Zorch --
yes that transponder shows to be slightly stronger on my setup -

11.054H [30000] is a fraction weaker -- like you i,v found late morning to midday the best for these transponders
very clear skies here this morning ---

cheers -- nelson.b

Since you guys are trying so hard to get 3A eastbeam, maybe a signal report from NL (closer to the footprint) will be interesting?
3A eastbeam is no problem to get here with 100 cm.
The real challenge here is 2A eastbeam: never been able to lock anything recently!
