My friend has a 51" Samsung tv, and he has a HD satellite recever connected to it.
It has no conventional stereo audio out rca sockets, so he connected it to a stereo amp via scart to stereo phono rca adaptor.
Problem is, it refuses to transmit the satellite receiver audio, which is connected from a remote room by a long HDMI, (15 metres) instead the audio from the tv's internal tuner is passed to the amp, ie DTT broadcast audio, whilst the satellite program is on screen.
The tv's own internal speakers work ok with the satellite receiver.
I'm not sure which model the tv is as he only called me this evening with the problem.
Just wondering does anyone know what might cause this to happen? I have to say I'm baffled.

Took a few readings to get what I think your saying..... Is it that the audio from the scart is playing the DTT audio and not the HDMI? If so, I think that is possibly normal behaviour but maybe someone else has a more detailed explanation

He will have to connect an optical cable from the TV to the A/V amp this is the only possible way of getting the Audio from what is broadcast via the TV, if your friend has the New 51" D8000 samsung then this set has ARC on HDMI 2 input which will carry all audio via HDMI back to his A/V Amp.

Got him sorted, I used the headphone socket with 3.5mm jack to two phono and into the stereo amp, problem solved and all happy. Thanks for the help and suggestions, I always learn new stuff here.

I know this is an old post but I have a question on the above. If the headphone socket is used to send the sound to an externakl amp using RCAs, does it not mean that you loose the sound from the TV speakers?

Depends on TV. My Panasonic one has separate volume controls for speakers and headphones.

Not my two LG Smart TVs. I do have an optical digital audio out. I purchased a box with optical audio in and RCA out but it does not work.

Does the HD box have phono or optical out? HDMI will carry audio to the TV so I'd have connected the HD box directly to the amp, assuming the HD box allows audio to be connected on both outputs.

I am puzzled by this reply. Why no bad thing?

Audio output from most TV inbuilt Speakers is relatively poor these days.

Onboard Audio performance is at odds with the very idea of High Fidelity Vision and Sound.

Which makes it hard to understand why Smart TVs do not have an audio out. The RCA outputs on old TVs were really useful. I can still send the output from my satellite and terrestrial receivers to wireless speakers and headphones around the house, but can´t send any of the Smart TV content. It´s very frustrating.

Do you not have a scart socket, or adaptor for one with phono out for audio?

What does one of those look like?
I have just placed an order for an HDMI to RCA composite lead. Hopefully I will be able to connect one end to the HDMI ARC plug on the TV and the other to the RCA on the analogue audio sender. I am hoping that will work.

Does your TV have a scart socket, or mini sockets which need an adaptor, as often the sockets are fully connected and will offer an audio out.

Am I missing something - why would you use an audio out feed from the TV when you can take it directly from the satellite receiver?

Sometimes the Audio gets ahead of the Video owing to processing delays.

And I personally have Sky box, Vu+ Uno, Dune HD for IPTV and media centre and the XBox... having to switch inputs on my old Marantz SR4200 amp is a pain when switching devices on the TV, so it's easier for me to just pipe the audio through it.

Need to invest in some more up to date amp which does HDMI switching, so I can just use the amp to switch inputs.
