85cm Transparent dish Moteck SG2100 and inverto black ultra lnb.

I have just bought a transparent 85cm dish which i will be going to motorise probably next month.

I also have a gemini 70 dish with 19e, 13e and 28e ,for the moment i have put a longer pole on my t&k and put the transparent dish above it pointing at 1w.

Should i add an extra bracket to the t&k or buy a separate mount for the gemini.

At the moment i have a Titanium 2nd Edition lnb on the transparent dish which works but is temperamental, what lnb should i put on the dish to get the best out of it ,i don't mind spending a little more if needed.

Thanks.

can you post a picture of the current setup you have, so we can advise further.

regarding the lnb on the clear dish did you move the lnb towards the dish and back again in the collar, to find the best position to maximize the signal on 1west ?

85cm dish is too small for Thor reception at your location, no matter what LNB you stick on it

I think he should be ok in sheffield with an 85cm but i think the rain fade will be mediocore at best

Hello, thanks for the replies ,i'm getting most channels fine on 1w some very strong and some borderline with out any tweaking and setup in the wind on a flapping pole:).

When i say the lnb is temperamental i should have said faulty ,it takes quite a few seconds when switching channels and most of the time i get "tune failed" then the channel comes on full strength.I swapped this out some time ago because of this and knew it was going to be an issue.

I have managed to get an inverto lnb from someone local off ebay and will be picking it up soon,so that's sorted.

The t&k are about a 2 foot apart it used to have a small pole with the gemini in between them.I have dropped the gemini down to the k bracket and the pole sticks about 3 foot above the t bracket now with the transparent dish on it ( quite wobbly) ,the plan was to put another t bracket at the top of the pole.
I will get a photo up when i get chance.

Here we go a photo, it was started to go a bit dull so its not very good, that pole is about 5ft long and looking at it i could cut it down a bit.

OK, dish side apart, the T and K brackets are far too close together (and both are upside down, which will promote the corrosion and stain the wall). In your situation it would be worth re-siting the upper bracket above the top dish so that both sit between the clamps.

Turn the T bracket up the right way and use the new position of the pole to get the K bracket holes correct, about a foot below the eaves.

yes, support is definatly required at the top of the mast.

I put the bracket like that so i could get the k low to the roof line ,i never took corrosion into account at the time , i suppose aluminium should last quite a long time.
I also never realised there was a way round for the bracket and don't feel like drilling more hole than i need too ,those bricks are like glass.
Should i remove the t and put it higher up or put in the other t which i have to hand and leave the lower t where it is.

T should be at the top and at least three courses down - K at bottom. Some install them other way round, either way will work but they are designed with the correct loading for K at bottom. Also consider K & K for heavy loads. Wall Fixings itself will play a big part in the strength, ie sheild anchors Vs coach bolts.

Thanks for the info ,i might just go for a separate mount for the gemini and redo the t&k for the other dish.

Not necessary, you can install the T in the same holes where the K is now, saving you drilling extra holes down below. Then simply put the K near the eaves.

The pole will move about two inches to the right when you fit the brackets round the right way.

putting a k bracket up top will be wise to stop any movement in windy weather and it will easily support those 2 dishes once you have added the top support

t&k brackets will hold a bit of weight as i have used a set and its holding up my 90cm andrews dish with 1224 motor which weights over 20kg

Yes, ideal candidate for being a KAT ( K at Top) I think, despite it not being the recomended way to do it usually. The brackets are not aluminium BTW, they are galvanised steel, and will rust in time.

Ah, now I know what I was going to post earlier. If the pole is aluminium, it is worthwhile replacing it now for a nice bit of scaffold, for when you stick a motor on the transparent dish

No they are aluminium and the pole is galvanised steel, i can get hold of some aluminium scaffold pole and do has Channel Hopper says with the brackets.

Aluminium T&K brackets? Where did you get them from, I've never seen them made from aluminium and can't see why they would be, as they will have more flex.

Well, I didn't know you could get aluminium ones either, I stand corrected.:-rofl2

Wouldn't use them though. But found an example:-

Thanks for the link Robbo.:)

The other problem with aluminium, is that it deforms easily when the U bolts are tightened, with the potential of altering the plumbness of the mast.
