Two dishes on one pole and lnb question

I didn't know you had a galvanised pole, but would say, stick with it if that's the case. The problem with aluminium poles is when setting up a motorised, the clamp can 'bite' into the metal, making fine adjustment almost impossible (that, and aluminium splinters, which are really nasty).
 
I made the brackets at work ,they do seem quite sturdy but i thought the flexing could be a problem, i could either get some thicker aluminium angle(no chance of flexing) but i might get the chance of some high grade stainless in the next few weeks(a pain to work with though).
I'm going to move the brackets later and see how strong it is ,don't forget i was using a small pole with the dish mounted between the brackets so i got no movement at all.

with the aluminium brackets you could add some bracing pieces on them like what is used on 36inch t&k brackets to stop any movement ?

first time i've seen them made out of that material, i thought they was steel and galvanised

I'll be lucky myself ,we had some come into work the other day and i've got my eye on some off cuts.
I have been busy drilling new holes and setting the dishes up again,its been twice now that i have set the gemini up straight away ,i put the meter in line and went inside to turn the box on ,i wasted time putting the meter on as i couldn't get it any better.
Its much stronger now ,its a pitty the guy on ebay as let me down ,they could have gone away but it would have been good to know.

Anyway some new photos.

I have tweaked the lnb a bit and now have channels that gave me a black screen before ,i of course expect to loose them in heavy rain.
I plan to replace the lnb and fit a motor next month.
 
The wife had only seen it since i did the changes ,it had been up 3 days since then ,i thought see had seen it :confused:.
She hasn't even realised the new channels we have even though she has been watching them.
Maybe i could have got away with a bigger dish.

The K bracket is lower than it could be. As you are fitting a motor the chances are the dish will drop by about 8", and move out from the wall by the same amount.

The proximity of the neighbours wall/room will limit the overall number of satellites unless the dish is raised closer to the eaves, and with the bracket where it is there will be some flexing under high winds.
 
Thanks for that channel hopper :-DOH2, i suppose i could have gone a little higher but that was the highest i could have got it without being unsafe drilling the new holes.
I'm going to see what satellites i can get anyway before i buy a motor ,i won't get anything past 28e and has you say west could be a problem because of the neighbours house.

Bins at the front,its a pain getting the green big out ,that's at the front now:p.
Good job you can't see the outside cubbyhole, that needs a lick of paint.
 
Sos for butting in,
I notice, you seem to have an alloy pole, I'm guessing 1.5"? My setup is at the back of a south facing house, pointing over the roof, so its quite exposed. The alloy pole on a T&K was ok on a fixed mesh dish, but when I added a motor and 95cm solid it was like jelly.

I immediately replaced the pole with 2" scaff pole (can't beat it). Conclusion is, ALL of your mounting system needs to be steel, there is too much wind resistance for alloy.

I had a 95cm solid on a H2H jaeger, 2" scaff and steel T&K, it failed in the storms 0f Xmas eve '97. But it was the H2H bracket that failed. I took it down and welded a gusset on it. I've also fitted a Mesh 85cm dish instead, much less wind resistance and no diffence in signal strength to be honest.

Are those transparent dishes solid or perforated?
 
It hard to gauge the size of stuff in a photo ,its a 2.5" galv steel pole with about 8" of pole above the k bracket,if i get chance to make the stainless brackets i would put a scaffold pole up there.

The dish is solid with an in bedded mesh.
 
My mistake with the pole its a 2" and not the 2.5" i said, good news though ,i will soon be replacing the aluminium brackets with stainless:cool: and a scaffold pole,shouldn't move at all then unless it pulls the bricks out of the wall:eek:.
