I found these in the laptop yesterday (running 8.1) and this is what is described

FTDI abuses Windows Update, pushing driver that breaks counterfeit chips

So anyone updating their pc may find their virtual rs232 port inoperative, no connection at all to peripheral equipment or worse with bricked devices.

Keep them peeled

Thx - I've got a USB to virtual RS-232 dongle for TM5403 M3 updates, which I do with one of the PC's and which have been W7 Pro m/c's to-date - will aim to try that with one the W10 ones and see "what happens"!
