Upgrading to Sky+

Hi, i bought a sky+ box off someone a while back and registered my account as having sky+ but i still only have one feed going to the lnb.

How easy is it to add the extra cable to take full advantage of the sky+?

The dish is in the garden, so access is not a problem. I know i need digital cable, and f connectors at each end, but my concern is could i possible knock the dish out of alignment by putting the new cable in?

Really depends upon the existing cable path. You say the dish is in the garden so is the existing cable underground? Without seeing a photo of the existing cable run nobody can really answer the question, however anyone with basic DIY skills could easily achieve this task.

Really what is that? there is no special cable for digital transmissions use a foil wrapped solid dielectric of the type in the picture CT100 or even better CT125

More important have you got a twin output lnb or a quad as a single only output will have to be changed?

A small part of the cable is underground, but the new feed could all be done above ground.

So does it have to follow the existing cable?

I'm pretty sure its twin, so that shouldn't be a problem....

As said before go for it!!!

If you do go ahead and find that you don´t have a twin LNB go out and buy one and change it over. Note that the existing LNB should be twisted to the left slightly ( about 7 to 8 O´Clock) the new LNB that you fit will have to be about the same.

Then you can sit down that night happy and warm inside that you have done it yourself and saved a few quid.

Thanks for the replies! I don't think I will have any problem doing the job, but on a technical side....

If the cable run for this cable is longer/shorter than the other cable run as I wont be following it, will this affect the picture quality in anyway or effect anything else?

Also, what is the likelihood I may knock the dish and reduce the quality when attaching the new cable?

You'll need to change the LNB for a quad LNB and that may affect the alignment slightly, but they are quite easy if done very gently, to realign. :)

Only if the new length of cable is very much longer than the original, will you possibly have a problem.
 
Ok thanks. The run will probably be similar in length. I will inspect the dish when i get a chance this weekend!
