Usals Slightly off!!!!

Had my motorised dish installed by professional, but we could never get the usals right. When I put in my long and lat, the dish will drive but it is always slightly off, i am getting breaking up on channels or some sats not coming in at all.

I can use my positions stored in memory no problem, just give the dish a few nugges left or right with the reciever, then store the satelitte, but i would like to be able to use usals to make things handier.

I am using a motek 2100 and a dm500, and a dvb-pci card. Is there any way of sorting the usals issue without having to get up on the roof and touch the dish.

Yes and No - the dish alignment is slightly out.

Yes - because you can account for the error simply by altering your entered Longitude

No - because if it's more than around about half a degree, your tracking efficiency will be reduced.

But for now, try increasing (or decreasing) the stored USALS Longitude figure by a couple of tenths at a time. Once you've found a figure that works, make a mental note of it in case you ever do a Factory Reset for any reason.

The results you get will then be the same as by storing the positions individually and if you are happy with the overall performance in that mode, you'll be happy with the performance in USALS mode.

It's still inefficient though - but if it works for you, then don't bother adjusting the dish itself unless there is further error eg due to storms.
 
BTW: You mention "Professional", yet you've given us cause to doubt just how professional! Shouldn't have been left like that: USALS set-up is basic stuff for anyone purporting to be professional.

I too have stored my sat positions in memory on my DB500.

As suggested in another post, I now want to try USALS. I think that I just tick GOTOX on my DB and of course enter my latitude & longitude. Should I select "Many sats via a DISEqC Rotor"? At present I have "non-standard user defined conf" selected, to allow for my two feed (fixed dish and dish with motor) via a DISEqC switch, as I was previously advised.

In doing so, will I loose my stored position? Can I just go back to them and use them again if USALS doesn't work?

USALs coordinates can only be added with the motor at zero position. Send to reference and add, then drive to a satellite as see.

Some installers prefer to install via DiSEqC 1.2, although more time consuming.

Now thats interesting, don't think I ever started at the reference point when adding my coordinates, will try that, thanks Satelitteman.

Well, it makes sense to send to zero first and add USALs info. This is how the set up guides explain it so not adding to any confusion.
Of course insert site coordinates wherever but motor must be calibrated/sent to zero after for USALs to work.
 
Hi Nigel
Just noticed this thread and saw that you have roughly the same set up as me. I have a db500s with a 80cm and i am going to buy a motor soon. My local shop can supply a motsat3 and wondered how you were getting on with yours? Would you recommend it? and does it work ok with usals?
