I use self install compression connectors, nip them up with your tool of choice and a perfect weather tight seal, plus most LNBF units have a pull down rain cover. I haven't used self amalgamating tape on an LNB for a long time and even where weather proofing on exposed connectors hasn't been used by previous installers, very seldom have I seen water ingress.

The F type are shown here. Self Install Connector

Also for standard compression connectors, you can buy a compression tool for around a fiver.

I don't think the pros use crimp connectors, they use compression connectors. There is a difference and good compression connectors can easily be waterproof. By their nature I don't think crimp types are waterproof and will need extra proofing just like screw on ones.

EDIT - beaten by Rolf. And with a better answer!

Many Thanks - took a look at that link and around the Webro site, but could not see anywhere that I could actually buy those, and neither could I find them on the CPC-Farnell or RS Components sites. So from where could I/we get them?

Many thanks - and a kit with 6 connectors and the compression tool is here for around £12-13, and I have just ordered that (more connectors next year when I redo some of the dish installations)

The prep and tightening tool is OK, but practice with it first, as it has a very strong spring and can easily cut too deep.

Was in my local Lidl this morning and came across this Protractor Spirit Level as one of this week's "specials" - took a look and bought one because it looks like it could be quite useful in the long-term, and possibly for dish iadjustments as the lower arm has 2x (H & V) spirit levels & the pivot has a very clear angle scale and the knob locks the angle between the arms quite tightly.

PS: the Lidl website seems very slo...w!

For years Ive been using adjustable spanners, socket sets, mole grips & anything else Ive had lying around in my tool box to do up the many nuts on my assorted dishes. Ive just bought a set of rachet spanners for 30 quid from Amazon - what a difference. So far no more skinned knuckles when the spanner slips!
Given how A/S started this thread, I probably should have mentioned that Lidl (again!) have this set of 8, 10, 13, 14 and 17mm ratchet spanners with swivelling ratchet heads for £9.99 ATM! Looked pretty decent quality too, but didn't buy those because I already have the Halfords' ones.
PS: if anyone is really desperate for either those or the Protractor , I could buy and ship them for the cost price + P&P.
