Hi I am living in Cornwall Falmouth UK. I have moved into a house there is a sky dish thats no in use no reciever or anything just the sky dish but i think its connected to the wall in my room to the cable socket. I want to know if i can set up a dream box and how much it will cost. Can i use this dish that is already there. How do i recieve free channels can i get RTE1 and 2 from Ireland. Sorry about all questions also I would want a box that does this for lower price range. John Graydon mentioned something about this in the thread maybe you could help. Cheers

Dreambox model number please. Or at least, is it DVB-S,C or T?

I've moved this from the other thread, as it is mainle off topic.

You can use a Dreambox on Astra 28.2, but you will only get the free to air channels, unless you have either a subscription card (needed for RTE and Sky channels) or a Freesat card for Channels four and five.

The cheapest way to get the NDS Videoguard encrypted channels is a 2nd hand Sky box, or subscribe and get the box included. The RTE channels are not Free to air.

Not sure if the Sky Pay once watch forever deal is available in Ireland.

The RTE channels require a subscription I believe, I don't think the Sky freesat card does them.

I would say its a C box. They seem to be very popular nowadays. Anyway You would need to subscribe to sky ireland for the basic package €22 per month for to get rte1,2. Tv3 and the basic sky ch. So you would need to get your box and card over here and bring it back to the uk with you. And keep up the monthly sub.

hi thanks i am thinking of buying a dreambox 600S can i use the sky dish if i have a sub sly card that was turned off 9mths ago

You would need a sky box to re-activate it for use on FTV channels leave it in the slot a couple of nights and if it is not damaged it should update OK

ok thanks it is currently in a slybox and has the freeview channels does that mean it is okay it was blocked because i didnt keep up with my 12 mth contract actually its more complicated than that but the main point is it was block by sly until i pay the balance but is currently providing fta as the box etc is over 12 mths from a previous account
