My trusty old Technomate TM5500 CIP satellite receiver/ positioner has expired. Completely dead. Checked cabling all OK.

I need to get a V Box for one of the dishes. Can anyone :-
1. Recommend a good one
2. Any advice on how to set up?
3. Especially the Sat Receiver.

I am not very technical...!

Many thanks in advance

Do you mean a V-Box II positioner, that can convert Diseqc 1.2 commands to 36v?
Is your motor a 36v version, with 4 wires, connecting the motor, to the positioner?
There aren't a lot of options, available, I currently use a SuperJack V-Box II.

Yes. A 36v with the 4 wires into the back of the receiver. The fuse has gone in the receiver I think and is dead!

I have had many vbox positioners over the years, the most reliable in my opinion is the Motech vboxII.

In my eyes, they are all the same. I think some boxes, such as Alsat ones are able to count rising and falling edges of the pulse from the reed switch, which doubles the count resolution.

In my opinion, they are all cr@p and tend to fail on a semi-regular basis.

Ok if I went for the SuperJack V-Box II,.. Can anyone tell me how to set it up?
Does the receiver move the dish via the V Box or Do you set the positions on the V Box and have a receiver separate?

Sorry to appear slow on this one!! Just want to get the right one. Got a big dish that won't now move!!

They all work the same way. You connect your receiver to the VBox via LNB cable in a daisy chain and connect the four cables to the motor/jack arm as per usual to the VBox. The receiver is then told that it has a DiSEqC 1.2 positioner and these commands are sent to the VBox which controls the motor. You can make it as independent as you want, or as visible as you want. All features of the VBox can be controlled by the receiver - some people even hide the VBox out of sight.

You'll need to attach the V Box in line to the LNB first, so receiver 'LNB out' to 'LNB in' on the V box, then off the cable goes to the LNB and dish. Get in the Motorised setup menu in the receiver and select Diseqc 1.2 for each satellite you want, then that should open another menu where you can move the dish E or W, save etc...
You need to do this for every satellite and don't for get to save each position as you go.
Once done the receiver sends the commands to the V Box and off should go the dish by selecting what satellite you want to receive.

So am I right in saying:-
1 LNB Cable from dish to Receiver IN
2. LNB Cable from Receiver OUT to V Box IN
3. The 4 wires then connect as now I presume?

Thank you. Not Done this before..

Not quite, you run the LNB cable to the V-Box II LNB in, then a small cable, from the V-Box II, LNB out, to your satellite receiver, LNB in. Then Diseqc 1.2 commands, from your satellite receiver, will automatiocally move your dish, once it has been set up.
Alternatively you can leave your satellite setup, as it is, and just connect the 4 wires, from your motor, to the V-Box II, and use the V-Box II remote to store the satellite positions, and move your dish.
The first method is preferable, as your receiver will then automatically position your dish, even when in timer record mode.

Thanks Mickha... Got it now.
Just one question... If I go for the 1st option.. what happens to the 4 coloured wires?
Thank you again!

They go to the V box, two motor cables and two pulse. Be careful to get them the right way round else you could blow the reed switch in the motor

Before you remove them, from your old receiver/positioner, make a note of which coloured wire, goes where, otherwise you will need to remove the case, off your motor, and note down which wire corresponds to which position.

I bought two the other week, this ones the best of the two, very quite and accurate on the 1224, I am using the same colour wire for motor and sensor so I have put some red tape on the motor wire.
