I have a amber lcd 7000 (V3) and I was wondering can I put any 7200 r.p.m. Hard Drive in this :)

You're better off with a 5400 rpm disk- less heat.

Unfortunately where I live the 5400rpm drives are not available any more. They havent been imported for about 18 months, and I think Samsung are the only manufacturers that still make a 5400 :)

Dreambox recommends Seagate. Thats why I got one. No problems with the heat always on the go recording.

i've got a 4200rpm laptop drive in mine.

Nice & quiet & very low heat :)

you can find 5400 RPM drives online, google for them. you should really not put in a 7200, you run a v high chance of failing due to overheat ... unless, you also put it in a fan ... but then be prepared for a loud setup ... believe me, i have a 5400, and sometimes when i touch the casing above the hard disk it would nearly burn the hands off me ...

I run mine with a 7200rpm drive no problems - it does get hot but not that much, and definitely not so hot as to "burn my hand off". I have an open shelf under the telly so lots of airflow, and I run my images off a usb stick so the hdd is only running when recording or playing back. The drive I use is also on the recommended list on the Dream Multimedia website.

I have a Topfield TF4000PVR and I took the 40Gb 5400 r.p.m hard drive out and put in a 7200 r.p.m. Maxtor and it gets hot but I can put my hand on it. It has a 5 year warrantee so its not like its mission critical data. Anyhow I have a old (<2 years) Western Digital 7200 rpm here I will try in the Dreambox 7000.
Can anybody tell me where the power connector is on the dreambox motherboard for the hard drive. I can obviously see the IDE connector but all I can see that resembles a power source is a connector that looks like a floppy drive power plug, brown in colour.
Is that it ???
:)

.. admittedly i can be prone to a bit of exaggeration from time to time ! ... when i say 'burn the hands off me' i lietally mean i needed to call an ambulance, i just meant it was very damn hot !

there was only one power point on the motherboard from what i can remember, that brown one must be it i would say
