I'm sure we have a few members on here who carry tools and equipment in their vehicles, there is at present an epidemic of thefts using skeleton keys and lock picks from Amazon and other online retailers. There are also the Peel and Steal thefts, where the organised criminals literally fold down the side and rear doors of vans to access the load space, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage, even if there is nothing worth stealing.

If you are a tradesman, know a tradesman who has been affected, or could be affected, please consider signing the petition, at present these thefts are not being taken as seriously by the authorities as they should be.

Theresa May MP: Stronger punishment for perpetrators of tool thefts from tradesman's vehicles.

I'd sign it but I don't live anywhere near you all.

If the tool box has a simple hasp lock on it then I would suggest this lock, it is called a "Hock Puck Lock" it has a cam lock set that is almost too hard to pick and an internal shackle.

Amazon.com: Trimax THPXL "Hockey Puck" Internal Shackle Trailer Door Lock - Rekeyable: Automotive

My brother-in-law has a trailer that he hauls his finished cabinets in, someone into it one night when sitting at a customers house, it was empty but that didn't stop them from wreaking up the inside paneling.

I put two of these hummers on it and it has never been touched since, you could see signs that someone wanted in but no way.

For small tool boxes I used these. (or close to them)

Signed, as I think this is an important issue, and my present location shouldn't make any difference. This is an international problem.
Here is my comment:

I am surprised that such thefts go unpunished severely and I sympathize with the people who get robbed out of their tools, possible damage to their vehicles and for not being able to make a living for their families.
I hope this petition will make a difference and will set precedence not only for the UK but hopefully other countries would follow the UK example.

Signed... :)

As a suggestion, you can buy dashcams that can activate if they detect movement (such as someone driving into the vehicle or someone breaking in), if you stuck one of these in the back of a van in a discreet position (and covered up any LEDs that might give the came away), then it could help identify the thieving scum to have them tracked down and punished by the law (assuming it actually gets toughened up and not remain the slap-on-the-wrist "And don't do it again!" thing we have today)...

All my stuff is insured by Smith & Wesson.

And my NRA Benefactor member stickers makes them think again about doing something stupid to any of my trucks.

Nice bumper sticker saying, "Due to the high cost of ammo there will be no warning shot", or "If you want to test the theory about an afterlife open the door", or "My dogs can make it to the fence in under 5 seconds, can you?", or "I always use two shots, less paper work"....

I like the movie "Astronaut Farmer" his ranch is under foreclosure and there is an assessor on his land looking it over, he walks up to him and says "I have 136 acres here, how long would it take for them to find your body"

We're not allowed such things, because apparently, guns leap up off tables and kill people all by themselves, because the british nanny state doesn't understand the "people kill people" part, whether it's with a pointy stick or an entire military campaign... :-doh

We also have "pointy sticks" usually at the bottom of the sales man traps, keeps the alligators fed, the alligators can reach the fence as fast as the dogs, the pointy sticks slows the burglars down

The UK is grateful for not arming bears as per the constitution.
