I am delighted to state that for at least a month, Lulzy Broadcasting's (My own company) Vantage Music is now on satellite!

Thanks to the awesome dudes at Kabelio for this special privilage, having been a member here for many many years spanning my childhood, it had been a dream since I was in school to work for MTV.
When MTVs music channels left us at the end of last year, I launched 3 music channels with the style of the early MTV channels and late MTV Germany. The channels took off quite well, gained a decent audience following and now that I am able to see my own broadcasts from space, just like childhood me discovered MTV in the 90's, is beyond amazing.
So it might be temporary, but for now, please enjoy commercial free, non-stop 24 hour a day music :)

Congratulations! That's pretty cool. I've just tuned it in. From what I've seen so far it looks great! Good luck with the channel.

What am I doing wrong? I cannot find your channel (which is an awesome thing to have)!

Please provide further details on this channel and your company!

I would love to know more about the story behind this. How expensive is it to broadcast via satellite, how expensive are the rights managment of the music video IP's?

Kind regards,
Vitor

Hi Vitor, Vantage Music is regulated by the Estonian TTJA and so has an Estonian broadcast licence. (which can be seen here: MTR)
In turn, we pay the EAU (PRS in UK) and EFU (PPL in UK) a percent per month of the channels earnings towards the music and performers rights. It's a little more complicated in other countries as there are further charges for the video directors etc, but Estonia does not have this as it's too small to matter for them. For the video sources, a lot of the older videos from my personal collections, or obtained though video pools & other partners. Most of the newer videos are sent to us/offered at an incredibly low rate.

The satellite bandwidth is being kindly donated to me from Kabelio, but when I've enquired about it I was getting prices around 1500-2500€ for 3Mbps of carriage on Hotbird from Italian uplink operators. You can get cheaper elsewhere of course

That is cool information. I thought that the rights to broadcast the videos would be very expensive.

I have no doubts regarding your license and please excuse me if that came through the wrong way.

I am genuinely intereste in how a channel is started.

For example, how is the uplink done? How do you stream to Kabelio? Also, can this be sustained with advertising or does Kabelio pay for being able to include a channel tlike yours to their bouquet?

Sorry for the many questions and please don't feel obliged to answer any if they are business relevant.

Kind regards,
Vitor

If it helps, the link below is a company I have worked on and off with for some thirty years, a lot has changed.

Hello,

The 60's, 70's and 80's are also included in your playlist ?
It would be great.

Best wishes for you.
Victor

There are 80's tunes on the channel already. Perhaps a second stream for earlier stuff if the platform gets the attention it deserves.
