Bitten by the spring cleaning bug, decided to shampoo carpet so got out the Vax, filled it and went through the motions, but after a few passes noticed that no water was being picked up. Some investigation revealed that this was because no water was being emitted from the machine and on further examination discovered the water on this particular model should pass through a solenoid pump; unfortunately, the coil is open circuit.
The pump is labelled ARS - Italian manufacturer, but I can't find this as a replacement on ESpares or similar.
It's marked 220-240 vac. the coils looks pretty standard with 13mm bore and 36mm high and 39.6mm diameter and spade connectors.
Any ideas? In the past I've had success looking for replacement coils at independent appliance repairers but these seem to be thin on the ground these days and replacement coils from the likes of RS all seem to be moulded into a square packageSolenoid 2.JPG Solenoid 1.JPG

Seems about time for a bit of creative "engineering" - can you not mod the old bracket to carry one of the "square package" pumps?

Do you have a brand/model number for the VAX??

I have several parts sites I can look through but need as much info on the equipment you can supply.

Been taking a look around to see if I could find something that would help, but, TBH, the price of pressure washer spares seems generally extortionate (to say the least!), and so - unless you can find a s/h one with a pump that does work - it will probably work out cheaper to just buy a complete new washer.

BTW: from what I saw, spares specifically for Vax-branded units seem almost non-existent, and so I'm thinking that Vax just "brand" units that they buy from "wherever" .

Thanks.... it's a VRS17W. It's one of those that looks like an upright vacuum cleaner. Don't expend too much effort; I think like Jeallen01 said, These are cheap nasty units that aren't meant to be repaired. In the pic, the inlet and outlet are 10.5cm apart. If I can source a coil I'll give it a go, but tbh, whatever the rrp is, a complete new carpet washer tends to be discounted to around £65. It just goes against the grain to scrap something that's only been used a few times (and we all like to beat the 'junk it and buy a new one' indoctrination!)

You may be right on the "junk it"most stuff made now days is made for a "it breaks one time, throw it away" repair option.

I have fixed several Bissle carpet cleaners that way, gave them a nice ride to the dump.

However if you inclined to do so and the coil on that solenoid can be un-wound, you may be able to find the break in the wire and fix it.

What I have done in the past is to measure the wire gauge and length of wire and re-wind the solenoid coil.

And if your lucky the wire is possibly broken right at the connections (50-50 chance) just be careful playing around with the high voltage stuff.

I also noted the manufactures phone number and FAX on that part, maybe you could fax a photo of the hummer to them and get lucky.
