Hi guys,

I have a small but annoying issue with my VBox. I received an uncommitted switch yesterday, which I put in my garage to switch between the CM and the Penta dishes. It seems to switch between these two just fine, but... Whenever I switch from CM dish to the Penta one, Vbox switches itself off. The repercussion of that is that when I switch back to CM dish, the VBox stays off and doesn't accept commands from the Uno.

I am guessing there's a momentary voltage drop from the Uno when switching from CM to Penta and the VBox responds accordingly. However, it doesn't seem to want to switch itself back on - I have to manually do it via the remote.

Any way to make the VBox stay on? Can I connect a permanent 12V supply to the LNB IN port on the VBox? This does mean that the LNB will always be getting power but that shouldn't be an issue.
 
Thats a mighty odd switch setup you have there CJ ?

Which switch is the uncommitted switch ?
Both say diseqc switch ...so it isn't obvious .
But even so ..its still odd that you need so much switching for so few dishes on one receiver ..
Are both the Penta and Channel master actuator driven ?
Presumably not ..as you can only drive 1 actuator off the V box ..so what is driving the other dish ..and using what diseqc mode ..
The mini dish being fixed ..and should only require use of 1 port of the uncommitted switch ...
..though still confused why this setup simply couldn't use 1 4 way diseqc switch ..or 1 uncommited multi switch ..
Sorry m8 ..butyou need to list what you have ..what drives what ...and what you are hoping to achieve ..before I can offer any help.

I'm Assuming you have 1 fixed mini dish with just 1 single lnb ?
I'm Assuming the channel master is actautor driven ..thus uses diseqc 1.2
I'm assuming the Penta is usals/stab type motor diven using Diseqc 1.3 ...
And that all dishes have only 1 single lnb
And that you have just 1 receiver connected to the whole system ..which is capable of providing Diseqc 1.1 1.2 and 1.3 ?

The Vbox uses 1.2
The SG2100 uses diseqc 1.2 or 1.3 (you should use 1.3 usals)
The fixed mini dish don't care about diseqc switching except to select a port on the switch ..
A diseqc switch also uses 1.2 (or 2.2) usually ..
But the uncommitted switch will most likely use Diseqc 1.1
Am I correct in my assumptions ?

All things being equal ...you should be able to stack you switching arrangements provided by the Vu+ to provide 1.1 to select the required port on the uncommitted switch ..which will be your first order priority ..
Designate port 1 for the fixed mini ..
The switch should then pass a diseqc 1.3 command to the SG2100 ...to move the Penta ..designate uncommitted port 2
The switch should then pass diseqc 1.2 to the Vbox ..and on to the Channel masters LNB .....designate port3 of your uncommitted switch for this ..
All controlled by channel selection on the VU+ ..and assigned to the switch ..and then motor control as required ..

Thanks for all the advice. Yes, my connectivity is somewhat complicated and the reason I didn't go for the 4 port switch is because the Penta and the CM dishes are at the back of the house with only a single coax cable run to the front. So I need an uncommitted switch back there to flick between the two. While at the front of the house I have a Sky mini-dish with a quad LNB but the Uno doesn't care about that (the other outputs feed the Sky HD box). So I have two cable runs inside the house from three dishes. I don't want to run yet another coax cable from the CM dish to the front of the house as it's already starting to look messy.

Still, I fixed my issue by placing VBox in front of everything, so my connectivity looks thus:

I guess the switching at the first switch confused the VBox somewhat... Still, all works now :)

No probs CJ ...I figured it was a switching/confusion issue ..
With the Vbox being controlled _after_ the switch ....further complicated by incorrectly perceived commands ..
You say I get carried away ...lol...your switch system is so confusing ...I suspect that description applies to you also ;)
Still ..a result is a result ...and thats what matters...
