VCR mode on Dreambox

I'm a Newbie to using the dreambox. Please could you tell me what the VCR mode does on the main menu? I cannot get it to do anything. I have tried variuos combinations scart connecion between the TV, Dream & VCR.

Have you try to record something from the db to your vcr?

Yes. But I have achieved this by setting my VCR to scart mode L2 (which is the connection for my Dreambox7000) but with the Dreambox set in TV mode.

In fact I use this setup to distribute the dreambox signal around the house via the co-axial cable output of the VCR.
 
As much use as a chocolate teapot. Socket is enabled by default in most modern images. I use both scart sockets on my box. I have Sky digibox TV scart into Dreambox VCR scart, Sky VCR scart to Panasonic video-in scart, and Dreambox TV scart to AV1 scart on Sony TV.
Also have Tosh DVD into AV2 scart on TV. Video feeds TV via RF.

All works perfectly :)
 
I also played with that socket too (ooer misses) because i thought it maybe meant that i could plug my Sky Digi into the dreambox and record sky programs to the DB hard drive.....
after i realised that wasnt possible, ive not touched it since :(

I have
sky Scarted to TV
Xbox Scarted to TV
PS2 Scarted to TV
Dreambox Scarted to TV
DVD Scarted to TV
Sony Video RF to TV

Although i do have 4 Scarts on my TV, i use a Scart extender thingie :)
 
Isn't it just so you can loop the input on the vcr scart to the tv scart?

Is there anyway I can view a VCR tape via the dreambox?

I was hoping that I could record from the VCR onto the dreambox so I can use the dreambox as a PVR.
 
I too wondered what the point of this mode was. I wouldnt want to record to tape, but maybe another PVR, though I doubt it since I could just ftp to pc and write a dvd..

Both scarts seem the same quality, I was swapping between the two last night, there seems no perceivable difference between the two. I have noticed though, that the Dreambox outputs a darker image than my Amstrad Sky digibox. Anyone else noticed this?
 
@Tonguedv: You're better off recording to the hard drive on your PC and there is a comprehensive post on how to do this.
