Hi all

Ive been told that to get all the EPL football matches live on viasat I would need to use a 1.8 - 3 Mtr. dish as some of the less watched team matches have a weaker signal. I note that most of the suppliers advertise the system to be fitted with a 1.1 Mtr. dish ould somebody advise / clarify the facts for me. I live in Swansea South Wales.

Any help and advise will be much appreciated

Hi
To get anything off the Nordic Beam from Sirius in Swansea, I think you are going to need a very very very (very) big dish. I'm sure Canal Sport shows live matches from Thor too, though.

Are those on the European beam? That one is straightforward, but I really don't believe it is possible to get the Nordic Beam, so a visit to Lyngsat might prove useful to show you what's feasible and what is not, Blanno

They are on the Nordic beam, and a dish considerably bigger than 80 cm will be needed. At a guess a minimum of 1.2m will be needed.

Aahh I was assuming 5E - and Im surprised you get the Nordic beam on an 80 cm dish - I have problems on a 1m dish, although it does rain a lot up here!

Merest hint of drizzle or thick clouds and the Nordic beam stuff disappears.

With all due respect, Thor 5 has a much stronger footprint in the UK than Sirius 4.8E. Perhaps 80cm is fine in Stoke for 4.8E (making the official footprint totally inaccurate), but there is absolutely no hope of that happening down in Swansea. Even 1.2m sounds on the small side, but that would definitely be the bare minimum. Thor 5 on an 80cm dish is absolutely doable, though.

I think we can say the op is refering to viasat on 4.8e as the channels mentioned on thor are tv2 epl I think which dont show all the games.

member john896 is based in south wales so he could post whether the signal is good/weak for these channels

what a great responce thanks to all of you for your interesting input. It's going to be a 1.5 Mtr. dish and i've been assured by the suppliers that it'll do the trick. It's being installed on friday 5th. August so I'll keep you updated hopefully save someone else having to do all the research.

thanks again to you all

Regarding the 4.8E Viasat channels on 11747V which is on the nordic beam.

I have a 1.2m dish which picks these channels up at 81% SNR 73% AGC on a TM600 with a 50M cable run.

I am about 2 miles from the coast and can see the sea from my back bedroom window, so I am about as far east as you can get.

In heavy rain I struggle to keep a signal on these channels, and last season one of the local bars which has a 1M dish was unable to keep the signal during mid/light rain.

So from my experience a good 1.1M or 1.2M would be best here in the north east as it includes a slight rain margin. Heavy rain and you can forgot getting any reception.

A 1.5M dish in Wales should be good for all weathers. If it is a Gibertini dish then all the better :)

The Thor Nordic Beam is also OK down here in Stone with my 80cm (Well, it is less than 10 miles away from Stoke. :D), there isn't masses of rain margin though - YLE for example goes quite quickly.

No chance of the Astra 4A Nordic Beam though with that size; I can confirm!

Blanno, did you get the dish installed mate?

Lost all the Nordic channels today due to the heavy rain. May be this dish at fault if others manage to hold signal during the rain.

A nice Gibby 1.25m should do the trick :)

Hi Blanno,

Just wondering how the picture is? We just had a system installed Friday too (probably same company)

Was wondering how your picture held out in the rain on Sunday?

Where else has it installed then?
