"Accounts will be identified by Virgin Media on the basis ofinformation supplied by the BPI. Both letters will be distributed by VirginMedia, without the need to disclose customer names and addresses to the BPI,"it continues.
The BPI claims that over six and a half million broadband accounts are usedto access music without permission using peer-to-peer (P2P) websites and that "in many cases, customers may not beaware that their account is being used in this way." *
Geoff Taylor, chief executive of the BPI said: "Education is absolutelykey to reducing the extent of illegal downloading... this joint campaign withVirgin Media is the first step towards achieving that goal."
