Eutel W2 at 16E appears to be off air. Anyone got any info or any signals??


Not a peep here although the colocated EB16A is ok.
 
Haven't visited 16E for a while but I'm not getting anything at the moment.

Eutelsat, we have a problem.

Ive left my DB running on Als&t RTV in the expectation it may be a depointing. If so the signals may come back then fade away again. Nothing noted in the last half hour so I wonder if its more serious.

Anyone got any moles at Eutelsat HQ??
 
10719V, 10892H and 10930H are ok. Nothing else...

Five's Arqiva downlinks are on W2 too. Heads will roll :D
 
Theres 2 UK DTT tx feed multiplexes on there as well! Plus the main AXN European c*ble distribution platform
 
Reports on the DS forum say the signals just went off suddently so Im starting to think the old girl has gone "bang"! :(
 
Same age as EB16 also. Possibly a major malfunction.
 
The old bird is _so_ old she's probably developed a form of technical dementure ...got disorientated and wandered off in the direction of that big bright light in the distance..
It happened to an old aunt of mine ...though we found her playing with the traffic ...not heading towards a massive solar body...

Some transponders are back (10972V, 11014V, 11131V, 11146V, 11178V), I don't know if they have been moved to EB16.

Exactly. Still the same transponders working only as of 7.45am
 
This just came up on the Eutel site:

Paris, 28 January 2010

Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) confirms that a technical anomaly occurred in the evening of January 27 on the W2 satellite located at 16° East. This incident is under full investigation by Eutelsat in collaboration with the satellite's manufacturer, Thales Alenia Space.

Immediate actions have been taken in parallel in order to propose alternative capacity to all customers affected by the anomaly, and services are progressively being restored.

So services are being switched over to EB16A.

The failure has taken out distribution of various Dutch radio channels. From Media Network:

Various Dutch radio stations have been hit by a technical fault on Eutelsat’s W2 satellite at 16 degrees East. The problem happened at around 2000 UTC last night, when all signals from the satellite disappeared. Some Dutch stations use the W2 satellite to feed a number of FM stations, and not all of them have an ISDN backup feed. Among the Dutch stations affected are 100%NL, Business Nieuws Radio and Slam!FM. The satellite feeds are also used by cable companies.
 
Sesat may be rushing to the rescue!

Sesat 1 is indeed being redeployed at 16E.

One of my contacts in the trade has told me that Eutelsat have sent out an email saying W2 has depointed and traffic is being migrated to EB16A, Eutel W2M at 3E and Sesat 1 which will slot at 16E & will arrive tomorrow.

No word yet if W2 is salvagable or heading for junk orbit.
