80cm motorised dish with Icecrypt 1.2

I have the good old SL65 setup. It is attached to my garden fence using all the little bits and piceces. Now its great flicking around and finding new stuff but sometimes when I want to move things to something I cannt be bother going out and playing around.

So I think its time to add a motor there is a nice one in maplins which they say will do the job but just wondering what you lot think and how easy and stable is it to fit.

Thanks

How much is Maplin's one and what brand? You can get the quite reliable Moteck SG2100 for about £40 delivered; I suspect that would be preferable to the Maplin's one.

Hi,

There are plenty of guides on the forum for installing a motorised dish. If you follow the advice given, you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

If you need to keep the dish in the garden, as it is now though, the fence may not be the best option, as you need a vertical pole, and one that's as rigid as possible.

An eight foot scaffold pole concreted in 2-3 feet should do the job OK.

Check out the site sponsors, I'm sure one of them will have one to better or beat Maplins. The TM2300 or TM2600 are like the Motecks.

Second that, a good solid level mast is needed for a motor set up, 50mm or 76mm.

This is the one that I saw at maplins.

No chance with a pole being contrated in. What about using a wall or end fence post. The house is not in a great postion for fixing a dish.

Get yourself a reliable 2100, 2300 or a 2600 motor :)

Now I am trying to work out if I can attach a motor to the dish. As there are no attachements at the back of my dish? Using the orginal SL65 dish.

I'm pretty sure that Camping Dish isn't going to be worth the effort of motorising - far too small to really add much value and IIRC the design isn't compatible with being able to easily fit it to a DiSEqC motor stub.

Best to pay less for a better motor, as advised by others, and use the savings to get a mid-sized "proper" dish.

Nothing wrong with the dish size. It Picks up

8w
5w
1w (including 1m channels)
4e
7e
9e
13e
19e
28e

And thats what I have picked up so far. So you see the need of a motor so I dont have to keep moving the dish.

But I dont think it will fit to the back.

Dont have money to blow on another dish.

Just an idea. After seeing the Maplin tech guys say it was possible.

Maplin are over-rated. Their "guys" are generally about as well informed as Curry's salesfolk.

And you may well have the money to blow on a more suitable dish if you do as advised and get a Motek or Technomate Motor.

They are often available for less than Maplins are charging for that indeterminate one you linked to :)

Also their Turner motor is a fairly cheap Moteck clone. Been asked to install three in the past that do not work out of the box. Stick to what's been recommended and you can't go far wrong :)

Will post a pic at weekend. (if I can work out how.)

Most motors are around £40 from what I have seen? Are these the cheapest?

Cheers all!

Hey,
You can get a TM-2600 on ebay for £40 delivered. A great buy. Just got mine working five minutes ago and I'm well impressed! Only issue was having to pinch the pole to get it to fit my zone 2, but works fine :)

Could be a problem. Might be worth considering another dish as mentioned in post #9.
