No satellite gear here, but at my parents' house there is:
Konig 35cm camping dish (horrible, too small)
80cm Silvercrest (lidl)on 13E and 19.2E and a Technomate 5300D+ USB Super.

After a bit of hunting, _http://www.sigma-shop.com/product/31/usb-24xxx-i2c-e-eprom-programmer-microchip-atmel.html It seems that most 24CXX programmers can also program 24LCXX chips, but a few say they can't. If you wanted to build a programmer, search for I2C programmer.

yeah, Uk suppliers of that sort of thing are pretty difficult to find... If you're up for building one, _http://mirror.bachelorsgrove.com/pro2052/schematic.html is worth a look (it's actually ponyprog and the necessary adapter - google ponyprog) You could actually get away without the external power supply part of it... or _http://www.vk2zay.net/article/31 - Alternatively if you have an arduino handy it can do I2C...

yeah, should do, though it only claims to do the 24LC16 not the 24C16 - you specified LC in the original post, but now you reference the C (I can't actually figure out the difference between them, but some programmers claim not to work with one of them)

Depends on the voltage supplied to the IC by the programmer. A 24C16 needs a minimum supply voltage of 4.5V, whereas the low-power version (24LC16) has a minimum working voltage of 2.5V. So if the programmer supplies, say, 3.3V, it won't work a 24C16 (probably).

Yeah, I thought that, but didn't feel like trawling the datasheets as thoroughly as I usually do...

hi...
any of the old pic programmers will do the job.
u can find numerious on ebay some for around £5
any serial pic programmer will do job only thing ul prob need a usb to serial converter if ur pc dont have serial like most dont nowadays!!!

then once u have the hardware there are many free software solutions for the programmer

look for a david tate style programmer as theres loads for it :)

or look for 'top 32 programmer'! under £40 for an all singing all dancing programme almost anything.
