Watching Sky on a non Sky box

My Satellite Setup
Technomate 1500 CI +
My Location
UK
I have a sky subscription and was interested in the possibility of using my sky viewing card in my Technomate 1500CI+.

I know it will involve using a CAM, but really do not know what cam it will involve or where to get it or even if it is possible.

I am pretty new to this satellite stuff, so if anyone can help, please keep the replies in laymans terms if possible.

Thanks.

Hi,
I haven't done it myself.
But the CAM you want is a TRex (previously called Dragon).

I have also seen reports that a Diablo CAM will work as well.

(Do a forum search).

However for both CAMs it will be necessary to put the card back into the SKY box periodically to get its 'stay alive' signal

P.S

Here's one for you:-

Have a pog around in this section and I imagine that you will find the info that you need.
Also that might be a better place to ask if you have any problems

This thread might prove veeeeerrrry interesting to you if it comes to fruition.

D'ohhhhh!

The link was there when I posted I'm sure of it.

you could use a dreambox to do this and u can "keep it alive" and much more.

But the o/p is enquiring about his technomate 1500 CI+

i know i just thought id point it out incase he didnt realise another reciever that costs the same amount of money can do it without any extra hardware. Maybe it will be usefull for him maybe not but the information is there doing no harm.

Openbox, also supportet videoguard, over integrated multi access cam,i can select it in the ca menu!

I Thought only the T-rex/ could be used with the sky card, not seen anywhere that the Diablo regardless of which stealth file version is loaded will work this.

In layman's terms (as you originally asked).
Yes it's possible to get a CAM to work, but it requires programming expertise and periodic re- insertion of the original Sky card into the Sky box it is supposed to be active in.
The reason for this is that roughly once a month a 'stay alive' signal is sent out to your Sky card, and if it misses this by being in a FTA box it will stop working.
