Seems the EU are telling us what to do again, from next September, all lightbulbs, either incandescent or Fluorescent, will no longer be rated by Watts, instead, they will be rated by Lumens, as in the amount of light they put out rather than the amount of energy they use...

Now to someone who is energy concious, Lumens means naff all when it comes to energy consumption, as with different bulbs, they put out different amounts of light per Watt, so one bulb could be 780 Lumens and 60watts, but another could be 780 Lumens and 20watts...

This supposedly is to bring the UK into formation with the rest of the EU who uses lumens as standard, even though we have used Watts for well over a century, it is yet another of those changes that we as an island have been forced into... :(

Yes they love to tell what to do and what not to do !

In this case of watt contra Lumen they do a good thing for once.

Watt tells You how much power You consume and Lumen how much light You get, we do still measure a bulb in watts whatever they say :)
