Several years ago, I had my website hosted with a company in Sweden and regrettably I let them register the domain for me, as I had new idea then how to go about it.
The hosting was ridiculously over priced and very inconvenient as they didn't have the possibility of payment with a credit card.
When I finally decided to host in the US, I asked them to give me the registration details in order to redirect the domain to the new servers, but they refused and told that they will be happy to do it themselves, but there is no way that they would let me have control over my own domain.
Very soon I will need to host with another web hosting, and I would like this time to get full control over my own domain.
What I don't understand is why the registrant would want to keep control over other people's domains ? Do they get payment for that or what?
Does anyone have experience and knowledge about this problem and how to convince them to "let go"?
Is there any legal action that I can take regarding this?
Thanks.
