Weird problem after changing LNB

CM 1.8 dish, Foxsat-HDR, Inverto LNB

Hi all,

Just changed the LNB on my CM 1.8 dish from an Invacom QDF-031 quad to an Inverto Black Ultra quad and have lost all channels above 12523, both V and H, on one of my two receivers. I have a Sky Pace 2600 which seems totally unaffected but my Freesat Humax Foxsat HD doesn't seem to want to play ball with the new LNB above 12523.

I've tried switching ports on the LNB but the problem remains, so it would seem to be the Humax/Inverto combination that isn't working. The missing channels were perfectly ok on both boxes with the old LNB so this is definitely not a reception problem, as is also witnessed by the continued reception of the channels on the sky box.

I'm completely foxed (pun intended) by this, any ideas?

Despite having a smaller dish using 40mm LNBs, I (and others) have had compatibility problems between certain LNBs and the Humax Foxsat.

Spent a great deal of time trying to establish why a few TPs at the top of High Band had gone AWOL and eventually conclusively established it was the LNB/Receiver combination.

Resolved by fitting (yet another) brand of LNB.

There is a Thread about it here somewhere, but it was a while ago.

You appear to have arrived, empirically, at the same conclusion and I can assure you the problem is not unique and you seem to have diagnosed it correctly.

There were various (well, not that many) convoluted theories espoused as to the root cause, none of them persuasive and none affecting the proven remedy.
 
hi -
i wasted a whole afternoon a few months ago with a compatibilty issue -- when trying a inverto white tech C 120 with a old technomate 5500 DAPCI reciever - - it would not show any signal quality of any kind -- even on the strongest of transponders -- and i tried two inverto white tech,s just to rule out an l.n.b fault -- same result -"no signal" --and they both work perfectly well on other recievers .
connected an inverto black ultra - l.n.b.f. to the technomate 5500 DAPCI reciever ---
good reception on all transponders -- as it had been with the darkgold l.n.b -- that i had been using all winter -prior to me making any changes .

as i said i wasted a whole afternoon finding that out - l.o.l.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one having stb/lnb compatibility issues.

Last November, I and many other users of the Foxsat HD box lost all their high vertical channels after a software upgrade. It took Humax, as I recall, abt 6 weeks to sort that little debacle out. Could there be some sort of connection? Just wondering.
 
No, I feel sure the debate around the Forums eliminated the dodgy firmware.

These compatibility issues seem to pop-up regardless of the software version.

As I say, it was debated to death and the consensus is to live with it or find a compatible LNB.

There isn't much up that end of the band for those just using the Humax for 28E to fret about anyway, IIRC. Press TV was the major concern for me, as I like to collect a range of views on World issues.

But I use my Foxsat for multi-sat, so the problem was slightly more significant.

Edit: I think Press TV moved frequency anyway, but can't find the details offhand. (Ah, now on 11222)
 
Just a quick update to this thread. I inadvertantly fixed this problem by switching from a Foxsat HD to a Foxsat HDR, now all the missing channels are back.
 
You would be suprised at how common a receiver / lnb incompatibility can be.

I've had no end of problems with some BluLines and my Dreambox 7020, and previously had similar problems with a no name cheapie and my old Echostar3000 and nonames and a TM1000!.


I keep a few old lnb's in the spares box now so I can just swap something out if it doesn't work.

Nice twist.

The rest of us changed the LNB and kept the box .................. you kept the LNB and changed the Box!

I decided to get recording capability so I figured I'd be better off changing the receiver than the LNB ... :-rofl2
