Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
Well last time it was 3 days without power, during this time I found out that my main generator had problems, this week after a few new parts it's back in service......But again we may be without power, PG&E (our power company here) is doing a knee jerk reaction again due to high wind forecasts for the Central and Norther Sierras and will more then likely shut down power to us up here in the hills, this because they don't want anyone watching the world series.

This action is stupid.....They have the means to isolate certain sections of the power grid, why shut down power to those nowhere near any big trees that could catch fire due to some idiot throwing a cigarette out their window.

New parts for the generator were, a new starter solenoid, and a gas conversion carburetor, the last one was to convert from propane to gasoline, I found out that propane delivery's don't happen when the propane company is also without power, so back to gas.
 
It might be something to do with the fact that their faulty equipment started the Paradise fire. And that they have since set aside 14 billion Dollars to pay compensation for that and other fires. There was a BBC documentary this week which showed what happened.
 
Arthur Brown has a lot of explaining to do.
 
Might be worth investing in some solar panels & batteries & going off-grid, cos if the sun stops working, then having no electrickery would be the least of people's concerns... :blink:
 
They are looking into making it illegal to go off grid solar here in California if you have any way with in reason to connect to the power grid, they want you sucking on the power grids tit.

I have a 24 volt solar system to charge my battery's for the ham radio stuff, (24 VDC regulated down to 13.6 VDC at 10 amps)

Our power system is so old it's falling apart, some of the lines and poles have been up since the 50"s, the one that services my house is so full of Woodpecker holes you can see through it.
 
I've heard of the whole illegal to go off-grid stuff over there, including making rainwater collection illegal, pretty dumb really, but, land of the free and all that, so long as you do as uncle sam says... :confused
 
And yet, people were having a go at the National Grid over here for that power glitch a while back (where two generation stations went offline coincidentally) that took out trains that needed an engineer to switch back on, at least they don't start wildfires... :blink:

Similar to that issue with Nest thermostats a few years back.

And some think its a good idea to have Skynet running autonomously. I mean look at the messed up millennial terminators they send back in time these days.

Well, the Nest 'stat issues were caused by hacking, which just shows IoT devices that can compromise the power & gas grids are a bad idea, the two generation plants that went offline were failures at the source, rather than of anything nefarious or illegal going on, but NG still got a load of flack for keeping the lights on across the nation while some grumpy people were stuck unable to catch a train because their life really depended on getting their starbucks fix, versus, y'know, keeping the power on for the majority... :-rofl2

No hack, it was confirmed to be a faulty software update at the beginning of winter 2015

I may have been thinking of something else IoT related, but still, I feel more confident in the, ahem, "security" of a 433MHz wireless 'stat, cos at least then a mass takeover of such things is a tad difficult... :lol:
