My Satellite Setup
Master Focus 90cm .Gigablue UHD Quad 4K on TM 2600 motor. *Tm 5402 HD M3, *Atemio Nemesis. *Not Used.

I got my TBS 6925 PCI-E DVB-S2 TV Tuner Card today. Unpacked it carefully, took the case of the computer and hey ho, no slot its being used by a graphics card I think. Now do I bother to alter it all around somehow or do as a computer mate says and buy a new computer. Or send it back and lose some money on postage/restocking.
 
That is a tough one yes the pci-Express cards can be a PITA, there are adaptors available but at very silly prices

I know a tinsy bit about computers but he is calling round this evening. I emailed Shop DVB and they accept retuns if its not been taken out of the sealed bag, looks like its an Ebay job if theres not a cheap fix. maybe I should have simply waited for my DM 7200hd, not as good as the card but probaly enough for me.

I started to say

'I'd say it depends on the spec of the computer.....if it's an up to date processor, you may get away with a new motherboard'

But then reality clicked in .... new motherboard - can you get one with an extra PCIe slot that takes your existing memory and CPU? And, if you manage that you'll have to reinstall Windoze coz the chipset will be different.

Or, you buy a new PC ..... Tough decision
 
Thanks. Best bung it on Ebay and lose a few quid. Can't have it all, a new puter and Dreambox....

are you sure the slot is taken up by the graphics card because there are different pci express slots, the long one used by graphics card and the smaller one used for things like this which is about an inch in size on the motherboard.

My mate had a look at the computer, its an old media one in an alloy casing stuck under the desk. He said there is a slot there if he moves bits around but said its not worth the bother. Doubts if the tuner card would work that well as the processor is to slow. Maybe thats why Win7 hangs up now and then. Idiot I am, should have looked first. I will pack the tuner card up and think about it but probaly sell it on as I can't have it all with Christmas coming.

ch, see the below example picture, you can see it has pci e 1x and 16x slots, the smaller 1x slot are for cards like tv tuners etc.

I have these smaller pci-e 1x slots on the motherboard for my core2duo.

Perhaps but AFAIK PCI-X slots do not accept PCIe (PCI EXPRESS) cards however it appears a PCIe adaptor will accept a PCI-x card as they are backward compatible
 
Thanks for all the info and after mulling it over its probaly best to leave it for now. Don't think I can put a new computer on my christmas list along with Kylie, Dreambox and a few new power tools. Pity though as after reading up on it I was looking forward to being engrossed for months in scanning the skys.
