What 1metre dish is best???

My Satellite Setup
Dreambox 800, Gibertini 1m dish with 0.2db LNB,OpenMedia 500 cs (dk Image),Skystar 2 DVB card+ProgDVB-S2EMUv1.28.1+VPlug
My Location

I have just had letter off planning department at council, saying Ive got to take down my Eurostar 130cm dish as it breaches planning regulations by 30cm )(-red

Have spoke to them and they inform me, I am allowed up to 1m dish.

So what 1m dish gives best gain, as with my current dish I am getting all Thor/Intelsat channels Nordic Beam, Sirius nordic beam and some verticals on Nilesat.

Dont really want to lose these but may have no choice!! :confused:

Any help much appreciated

There is a bit of a problem here.

For example, the Triax TD110 is sold as a 1.1m Dish, but is actually 115 cm tall by 105 cm wide.

Other Dishes, like the Gibertini have at least one dimension of 104cm (can someone measure the other dimension, please?).

No doubt others sold as, or more or less equivalent to, 1m have similar uncertainties. Some are, apparently, described by the diagonal.

So ................. what exactly is a 1m Dish ?

And whatever the answer is, will your Planning Department use the same criteria?

How did you get caught?

My south facing wall is front of house,
A neighbour complained about it, O-noso planning dept came out to see it.
I think as long as its sold and packaged by manufacturer as 1m there shouldnt be a problem, also looking at darker colour ie antracite so it doesnt stand out so much.

Have choice of ISS 1m Orbital 1m or gibertini 1m they all quote they have gain of 39.8db
 
ISS are flimsy.

I have an Orbital 80cm, not the 1m, but it is quite satisfactory.

However, I know lots of people who swear by the Gibertini 1m - but that was the point of my previous Post as it is 1.04 m max.

Common sense says you are right about the "sold as" description being what should be used, so do keep the purchase documents and spec. in case your Planner prefers the evidence of tape measures.

If its NOT fixed I think you may be ok, i.e. non penetrating patio mount

There only 90cm but have the gain of a 1.1m dish:)

Why do people have to complain! You now have to change your dish for the sake of 30cm!

And you still going to have a dish mounted so the last laugh is on the person who complained:)

This is the annoying part as I had this dish installed at my old address for 6months with no complaints, I have now moved to a smaller house in a slightly rougher neighbourhood and someone complained within 1 week of it being put up.

Any ideas where to start looking for a Fibo as Ive done a search and no luck, heard off a few ppl that these dishes are very good.

I have an L200 pick up so was thinking of mounting a 2.4m dish in back of it on drive, its then a temporary structure and doesnt come under planning regsHumping

Unfortunately the front of the house, ie south facing side is open plan on to road, so security of dish would then be an issue.

The letter off planning dept also stated that it was due to its visual impact on the street, a new regulation apparently it is a condition of installing an antenna that you must site it in such a way that minimises its impact on the external appearance of the building.

Judging by what you were getting... choose wisely and get the right info from here to get the best out of it and I think you could improve on what you were getting.


BTW... Going over the back of the roof just clearing the tiles tucked close in and low down is favoured by planning - not seeing it from the road is a big plus to them... if you can do it.. (you might not have actually got a complaint)..

requires a longer pole and sturdier brackets etc.. but can result in a better arc..

I have been reading up on the 'visual impact' aspect of this subject so as to be prepared should I get a visit from the 'Environmental Police' If you google it there is a lot of information. I get the feeling the 1m assumed limit may not be the best or only argument. Sensible siting is what would be a defence should the matter ever go to an appeals Inspector. There is s lot of published info on a similar 'problem' in some peoples eyes: Wind farms and solar panels. I am trying to heat my house with my dish. That would gain favour no doubt
