OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Just scored this at an estate sale, the lady didn't want it up anymore so I offered to take it down and haul it away for free.

She said do it, so I brought in the big truck and a couple of kids to lift it off the pole (pole comes down today) and I'm in the "C" band scanning business.

Now to start digging for the base and run some conduit, I have to mount the "C" and "kU" band LNB I have lying around from my 1 meter "C" band dish test days, and test the actuator out, but the dish is a great start.

Nice catch. Are you going to try a Ku band LNB on it? It looks like a C band dish to me so not sure what you're looking for.

It's a mesh (or perforated) dish and the hole size is 1 mm, so it will/should work for Ku band, I have a combo "C" and "Ku" band LNB for it from my experimenting with 1 meter "C" band dishes, it will work out fine.

Just have to remember how many sacks of concrete to use for the base, I think it's one 60 pound sack for every foot of diameter.

Why don't you use the c band lnbf that I sent you a couple of years back? Not worth the bother here in NA for ku band and you already have a dish for that.

From experience, a C band mesh dish performs like a smaller dish when used for Ku band.
If the mesh size is small enough, then the performace goes up few dBs.

Never thought about that one.....Man the old memory is failing fast, I may use the C/ Ku one to find 121W (my due South bird) to make sure its on track, then switch to the "C" band only one you sent, thanks for reminding me on that one.

I now have to find a couple of young ones to start the digging, the ground is very hard where the dish is going, and my back is not what it's use to be.

Cost too much to get a back hoe in here.

I have a nice spot picked out for it, but hope the granite is further down then when we dug the foundation for the garage, we hit granite at 8 inches in one spot.

If that's the case I may have to drill and pin it, or blast......OOOhhh that sounds like fun, I haven't blasted anything since my gold mining days.

If I hit granite I could drill a big 4 1/2" x 24" hole and epoxy it in place,(foundation bolt epoxy) that would hold an elephant.

The who of the what? You're going to have to tell us about that Terry. In another thread of course!

I'm a big fan of the discovery series 'Gold Rush' ..
Don't suppose you have met 'The Viking' Tony Beets or any of the Newbs ..Parker ..the Hoffmans etc featured in the series, Terry..?
That Dredge Tony rebuilt was a work of art..labour of love ...call it what you will.

...now those guys know how to Macgyver...

OK, feasibility test was done, here are the results.

No pole just an elevation setup, and a "C" band LNB in-place.
10 foot dish 1B 003.jpg

Results are very good, this is 137W, the only open channel I could find on the old CoolSat 5000 was the GCI channel on TP3760H.
10 foot dish 1B 004.jpg

Not bad without a mast, and a best guess on things.

Now to locate a good cheap "V" box, if the linear motor checks out.

Funny, that CoolSat 5000 is running the same software as a Technomate box. Normally they try and make them look a little different.

Nice view!

We've got plenty of granite in Finland. Pretty much everything here needs to be blown up (foundations for buildings, roads, etc) before you can work on the land.

Yah I hope I don't hit granite, it will make things a bit harder.

But I have a friend that has up to a 5 inch core drill setup, I could drill it out a plug at a time (8" max depth with his setup) and use the foundation bolt epoxy, it would be stronger then a concrete base.

Yah I hope I don't hit granite

It cost me £80 in concrete, it would be less than half that price if i had a massive lump of granite under my feet:), good luck Terry, i am sure you will get it secure whatever is under your feet :)

Well I figure ten to twelve 60 pound bags of high strength concrete, at $2.92 a bag.

Thats a 16 inch by 16 inch by 30 inch hole, that should hold that thing up. I just hope I can get down to 30 inches.
