Hi guys

Ok I given up and need to ask for help... I have

Humax Foxsat HD
65cm Fortec Star Dish
Nikkai Twin LNB A04FT

Trying to get Hotbird 13.0e

on A 164 E 29 (Almost vertical) Skew 11 (connectors to the right when facing the front of the dish)

Found loads of useful stuff here and have reached the point where I'm getting a signal strength of 80% -75% but no Quality and zero programs found. When I plug the Sky dish back in I get 60% strength and loads of channels.

I figure I'm doing something obvious wrong, so any help will be greatly appreciated before I jump off the roof or get fit from climbing up and down the ladder.

The Foxsat is designed for 28E, have you gone into non-Freesat Mode?

Have you actually adjusted the dish? or just set it to numerical values somehow?

You appear to have your skew set the wrong way too.
 
Signal Strength is, at this stage, merely confirming there is an LNB connected to the Receiver.

It will only give you useful information for optimisation once you've got close enough to the correct alignment to get a sniff of a real signal (as indicated by a healthy upswing in Quality).

I note you are using the Foxsat.

Please confirm you have put it into non-Freesat Mode and have accessed the Manual Tuning Menus via the Red Green Yellow Blue Green Yellow Blue sequence.

Skew should be clockwise when viewed looking from LNB to Dish.

Yep in non Freesat mode using the colour code.

Will try the skew the other way... Aligned using a compass and a woodworking set square. Read the thread about the dish being offset and needing to look vertical.
 
No, that is not the way to align a dish.

You have to do it by looking for a signall and optimising it.

You probably have the wrong satellite, or not on one at all.
 
I do have a needle based satfinder thing... nearly tossed it over the wall.... Oh well back up the ladder...

Nikkai Twin LNB A04FT... from Maplins. Can't seem to find anything about it on the net.
 
Now sorted thanks guys.....

Skew was wrong as you suggested, persevered with the sat finder but main problem was the useless connectors supplied with the cable kit.

Shoved a panel pin up each to wedge them on the cable and taped in place as they were too loose and kept coming off!

You'd think Satellite Grade Cable and F Connectors wouldn't have compatibility issues, wouldn't you? But, like you, I've fallen foul in the past. I built up the cable circumference by wrapping it with sellotape to the extent that the F plug was a proper "interference fit".

Later, I bought some decent cable instead ................... :-rofl2
 
I used to have problems with cable fitting the connectors, sometimes too loose others too tight. Now I just use wf100 with compression F's, perfect fit every time, and takes about 10-20 secs per connector.

Not tried the compression one's, but Forum Member wod has recommended them I know - so maybe during the next round of maintenance/burst of enthusiasm :)
 
Yep, compression or crimp, although the new screw connectors I use are a bit special, including an internal "O" ring for moisture proofing, the second picture shows the high quality and the standard..:)
