What are keys, patch's and hex files

Hi,

Sorry for such basic questions. Am I correct in saying keys are alpha numeric strings that are used to crack encryption?

Can someone also explain what a patched receiver is and what a hex file is?

I am thinking about buyng a Technomate 1500ci to access ART on Hotbird and Digitalb on Eurostat with a 80cm dish with 2 lnb's. Can I use keys to access some channels with out buying the official cards?

Yes the alpha numeric strings can be used to open some pay services.

If you want ART you pay for them - end of story they are secure :D
