What do I need for a Motorised setup?

Guys,

I currently have a receiver that can be used with a motor but is currently on a fixed system.

Its about time I changed over to motorised to take advantage of the channel/satellite selection and I am not really clued up with what I need.
From what I read the following are the best in terms of dish and LnB -

Gibertini 1M Dish
inverto black ultra lnb or Octagon Optima LNB

Not sure what Motor to get?

What else do I need, where is the best place to buy and what's the price range I should be aiming for?

One of the first things to decide is if the dish is going to be situated in a windy area - if so you might want to buy one with metal gears rather than the traditional nylon/plastic ones.
 
The dish is going at the back of the house wall.

With regards to wind it should be fine as a neighbour has a 90cm dish on his chimney stack which he has had for 5+ years and his is a triax.
 
The TM2600 is a good choice for a motor, then.

Have a look at our supporting advertisers' sites, several of them do complete packages, but you can of course buy separates. What you'll expect to pay will depend on what you choose.

make sure you get a decent wall mount, some installers tend to try get away with those L shaped mounts for motorised but they are useless.

T&k mount with short piece of scaffold pole will do you well, depending of course how much standoff the dish needs to turn either side.
 
An offcut from a scaffold pole would be suitable, if you can blag one from somewhere.

And you need to consider what size T&K to get, too.

That depends to some extent on the orientation of the wall: I managed to put a 1.1m dish on 12" T&K (The motor obviously provides extra effective standoff) and get 39E to 58W without it hitting the wall, but you might have to go to 18" if the wall is not within twenty degrees or so of being South facing.


Edit: Just spotted Member wod mentioned the scaffold pole earlier.
 
Are you going to fit it yourself, or call someone in ?

If you are buying the kit you may find an installer charging more as he will only know what he is fitting once he gets there.

Our local scaffold company is always happy to sell used poles at £1/ft
 
I had a satellite installer over today who briefly had a look at my property for where to install the dish.
He said a 1.1m dish might be the best option as there are some tall trees just in front of my back garden.

However he does not know of the make Gibertini or any of the quality branded items.

Do you guys think I should go for a 1.1m Dish or get a 1M Gibertini dish?

Who is the best place to order from so I can have all the kit by Wednesday?
 
Don't quite understand what your installer is saying, is he saying you need a bigger dish to cope with there being trees in the way?
 
Any decent enough motorised installer would know of Gibertini dishes. As above, it's time to find another installer.
