Hello to all.
I am currently living in Portugal (near Lisbon) and have been watching sky
using a 1.1/1.2? dish (it looks more like a 1.1). I read that if you want good reception here, then an aluminium dish is necessary. However, I have discovered that my dish is only a steel dish.
Could someone explain to me what the difference is between the two (besides price) and if I would get better reception with one. At the moment my 2d is 50% strength and 50% quality. My discovery channels are up in the 90s. I am going to change to sky+ so I was wondering if I would need to change the dish to something a bit bigger or even an aluminium one, or if what I have is sufficient. I know that if I want a 1.2 steel it is €50 and aluminium 1.25 €100.
Could anybody clear this up for me?
 
For a better signal and improved CNR, moving up to a larger dish should achieve this.
Aluminium - Corrosion element as well :D

No advantage with an aluminium dish if it is of a similar quality, it will be lighter and not so susceptible to corrosion, but will perform as a comparable steel dish would.

If you have a good working signal now, Sky plus should be fine, all you will need to do is swap out the LNB for a twin or quad.
