I have just put my qed anniversary edition 79 strand cable on my B&W 683 S2.

While I wait for my new speaker cable to arrive.

The new cable is qed ruby anniversary evolution, so hopefully it will make quite a difference.

Bog standard speaker cable here.

Where Ive had to extend speaker cables at work Ive used anything from speaker cable to mains flex & whatever else was in the spares box :D

Cambridge Audio Symphony 400 cable in use here connected between my Cambridge Audio A5 and my Tannoy Mercury MR2 speakers. The amp and speakers are getting on a bit but still sound good.

I still use my old Denon DCD-1000 cd player over the more modern Sony one as it sounds a lot warmer, truth be told, i only use the Sony one when recording to my Minidiscs.

I ditched my DCD-1300 ages ago. I think the laser burned out, and repairs was more expensive than a new Marantz one.

Speaker cable?
As I have had no proper listening room, or indeed "home theater", as it seems to be called these days, for more than 7 years, I use bog-standard mains cable these days.
I still have 2 x 10 meters of high-grade LC-OFC cable somewhere as legacy from the audio engineering and HiFi purist days, but honestly, I don't think I will upgrade before the kids have left.
And that will be some years in the future, where my ears work even worse than now, and so we're back to mains cable... :)

I just use 12 gauge lamp cord, you can't tell the difference.

And it's so much cheaper.

  • Galileo System Speaker Cables are no less innovative, with two high current Galileo EM Cells decoupled from ground by razor sharp stilettos, and connected by four cable strings. Each string is suspended by a unique system of cable elevators that maintain uniform distance between strings, for effortless sound. As with a fine instrument, each string has a specific role to play in transferring music from your amplifiers to your speakers.

We developed the following geometries: two high current Galileo Strings with Silver Matrix conductors, one Pure Silver Air String, and one Silver Tricon String; all Actively Shielded, of course. The two high current Galileo cables lend weight and authority to the music, while the pure silver Air String preserves delicate air and inner detail. Lastly, one Pure Silver Tricon lends bloom and overall soundstage scale & dimension to the transfer. The net result is a sound so finely detailed, yet so effortless and rich, it defies common assumptions of what is and is not possible from a premium set of speaker cables.

All this reminds me of the gold-plated connectors (Various) issue.

Pound-shops generally sell stuff that does the job just the same.

Any inexpensive 2 x 2,5 mm (or even 2 x 1,5) does the job here.
If I were to spend cash, it'll be on speakers, definitely not on esoteric$$$$ snake oil cabling :O)

My 20 years in the recording business: for speakers and signals: 'good enough' cable quality, as short runs as possible, good connections\connectors. On signal side, avoid earth loops like the plague.

But for some high end home systems I do believe expensive cabling could make a (small) difference, but worth the price? not imo.

Have I fallen through a rabbit hole and found myself in a world written by Lewis Carroll?

I have a bulk standard Technics unit with 5 cd / dvd unit etc, and the speakers are about 1cm either side of the " stack " using the ever so long bulk standard red and black cables it came with.
Still sounds good though, even if it is pre-historic
