Whatsapp latest update

Got a message this morning ,telling me I stii have "one week" to download the "new update" .
It enables users to do whatsapp on a computer without having to activate a mobile.
Is it "necessary"/"useful"/a nuisance of some kind?
I didn t read any "critic" of it ,just o=plain relay news. Hence my query.
 
Don't use it myself but I understand if you don't install the updates the service stops working.

What might be of more concern is if you do update there’s a list of phones that WhatsApp will no longer support. May not be an issue for you but it’s worth noting. Haven’t updated WhatsApp on my iPhone 5S for over two years and it still works perfectly. Just google the reviews and judge for yourself.
