where to start

Greetings, I have a receiver with embedded viaccess and spare cam slot.
But my interests are moving towards the programming and card area which seems facinating.
Ive read over a few sites, but id like advice on where to begin so i get the good equipment.
I assume that i need to purchase a programmer and some type of card, then how do i get the software for the card and the knowledge to write it.
Does the software require just a transfer onto card, or do i have to learn to program etc etc , these are the questions that are decieving me at this moment.
Any assistance is highly appreciated.

_www.duwgati.com is also a very good beginner site. It will teach you more than you need to know to get strarted, and it's very easy to understand.
