Our new Samsung TV has come with a surprise option, it has a built in sat tuner and it all supports 4K so I've been able to view the demos on 28E. Not only that but it has good support on the satellite input including diseqc motor control so I'm going to loop it through my G-Box. At the moment this is connected to the 1.2m with stand alone control from the remote and connected to the Prof card up here.

This means I'm going to need a new LNB, I'm currently using an Inverto Black Ultra single but do I go for a dual or quad output IBU, how does each of them compare to the single for performance?

There is one quirk with the TV, you can select either satellite or terrestrial tuner on initial set up, after that you're locked to the option chosen and there's no way of adding the other input after the set up, must of been too much trouble for the software engineers to write the code!

In the dim and distant, I once did try a twin in place of a single. I don't think there was any difference in performance, but note that the bulkier dual design restricts your ability to move the LNB away from and towards dish focus...

The twin output IBU works fine on DTH satellites but I found that for feeds the single IBU was better so you may be OK with the twin output.

Decisions, decisions, I don't really want to lose any performance on the 1.2 for the sake of getting multisat on the TV downstairs. I'll go see if I can find any reports on the quad, thanks both!

I do have a black twin Inverto LNB with a long neck, will have to check the packaging/model number though to see if it is an ultra.

Give me 15 minutes

In my general experience, the quad and single are about the same.
I seem to remember some reports / wive's talk about the dual being inferior to the single and quad.
In any case, the differences I've experienced across multiple single/quad/quattro were minimal.
It's a good LNB. Maybe not the best, but still a good performer, and with a long neck that works really well with Channel Master dishes used to having long-neck feed-horns.

From memory the criticism of performance was with the Invacom LNBs when it came to singles, twins and quad differences but I could be wrong.

I am fairly certain the dual-stuff pertained to the IBU.
But there may have been stuff going on with the Invacoms too.
I have single, dual and quattro Invacoms, but have not seen that much difference.
It's probably not fair comparing the single universal one with a quattro attached to a CM feedhorn.
So comparing the IBUQ with the Quattro Invacom / CM feedhorn, the IBUQ has a slight edge.

In the case of "Invacom" LNBs, I have evidence that the cross-polar modulation is best (= lowest) on the quad-output version.

I did a test this morning with the twin output IBU & the signal quality level was 2 to 3% lower than the single output IBU.
