Which Humax????

Humax Foxsat HDR. LG 37LH3000 with LG DRT389H.
My Location

I am looking to buy a freesat receiver but totally bewildered by the differing 'specs', not to mention the extreme differences in price. I have been told that the Humax receivers are well made, reliable and often used by 'all in' satellite fitters.

However I want to purchase my own receiver as I have some Amazon vouchers, but am at a loss to know which model would prove to be the best value for money.

Any ideas to point me in a direction I will not later regret?!!
 
It's easy.

Foxsat HD for simple reception of Freesat channels.

Foxsat HDR if you want to make recordings on its internal hard disc.

The HD needs a single satellite feed, the HDR (to work fully to its best) needs a double feed from the LNB.
 
I entirely agree with PaulR, but in the interests of choice the current prices of all available Freesat Receivers (and the range is much wider than it was until even a few months ago), you might like to have a gander here:

Personally, I'd avoid Sagem.

Also noted (news to me also!) that Bluray stuff is now on offer {for those who are feeling flush !}.

Given the problems with the ordinary Freesat boxes from Grundig, Bush and Goodmans I'd avoid their PVRs as well.

The price is eyewatering. If you want Bluray I'd advise waiing until prices drop a fair bit yet.
 
OK so now my choice is beginning to get narrowed down from the advice given, I have just one more question.

Apart from the dish, lnb and co-ax included with this offering from Amazon;

What is the difference to this receiver which appears to be identical, but less the dish, lnb and co-ax;

Is it the identical receiver or not? The spec to the second link does not mention anything about an internal hard drive, whereas the first does.

It is the same box. That's what the Humax Foxsat HDR is .... a Twin Tuner Freesat HD Receiver with Internal Hard Drive. They don't do a corresponding model without internal HDD

The difference between the two "items" is solely the installation kit.

I wouldn't get something like this from Amazon anyway .............. apart from the fact that often you'll find it is not "in stock" nor will be any time soon, despite appearances, you are going to find it harder to get recourse if it proves faulty.
 
The price just for the box is competitive, especially considering carriage is included.

The kit, however isn't. £100 for a dish, LNB, cables, screws and clips? Moreover, if I were putting the dish in I would use two lengths of CT100 or WF100 rather than the skinny twin coaxial WF65.

Thanks for that. Only reason I am buying via Amazon is because I have some vouchers which I had as a Christmas present. I've had Amazon vouchers before and used them toward purchasing a new laptop and experienced no problems.

Though purchased via Amazon, the laptop actually came from an established pc business in Glasgow. I suspect the same will apply if I buy this Humax....it would be dispatched from an electronics dealer. Price is very competitive and appears to be the best price I can find.
 
Appreciate your comments and have taken note of your advice.

Approx what kind of figure should I be expecting to pay for a twin tuner installation? A few years ago I could have easily done it myself but i'm afraid my days of climbing ladders are done with now due to arthritic problems, so I will need to have it professionally installed.
 
Ok re. Amazon: Always glad to hear about people with better experiences than I !

As for Installation, Argos/Currys etc charge upwards of £80 for Installation - I think it's around £110 for twin feeds.

BUT, you did say "professional" and that means going privately on local recommendation. I guesstimate the costs would still be in the region of £100, but it would depend upon ease of access etc.
